Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

It’s coming

My boss started asking us about work we can send to India. I told him excitedly about all they can do. Such as clean-up of our data, creating database, generating reports that he and his bosses want from various databases. Surveillance monitoring of wells.

All things I don’t like doing. Sure they can do that. Also told him that I need to QC that work, so make them report to me. i even offered travel to teach them. i can go monthly to build the team. i need some curry

Heard 20-30% of jobs will move over next few years. And don’t expect a huge severance payout - min legally required. It’s going to get messy.

The OP just sealed his fate. You won't be doing any QC that will be left to the HiPot who is assigned in India. Of course, nothing will be checked and it will all be a CF. Management will have multiple meetings to talk about the path forward. Several presentations will be generated to as--s all the different types of ways the work can be checked. Maybe in two or three years something might happen. In any case, the OP will be down the road.

Software devs have been working with offshore labor for a long time, we know how hard it is to get someone to do something they don't understand, and even harder if they don't have the right curiosity to learn. If you think our data will be cleaned because we have more offshore resources, you don't understand the problem, and probably shouldn't be commanding people what to work on. That's never stopped anyone, so this will be a clusterfu-k, the OPs attitude will be the right one not to get sh-t-canned, drink the Kool aid mo---------r.

When you underestimate someone, guess what will be the result? They are going to take some of the jobs, that is pretty much guarantied. Now the real question is how many jobs? and the SLT is not saying a word about it. Which may mean that the consultants are going to determine the numbers. That makes me a bit queasy.

they can only clean data - if there is a DETAILED description of the process written in a book - far too difficult to think - work like a robot - it will take them forever -

what do you mean with "it's coming"? Is not coming, it already came and has been here for a while. Its in the news and will just continue to intensify in the upcoming months.

Riding ox cart to work smells funny. If there is only mania is it bipolar?

Most of the Indians that I have had the pleasure of working with are sharper and far more diligent and hard working than their US counterparts so that's no surprise.

India is known for being very clean, so the data will look great

Having the Indians clean up all our data would be a huge benefit. Imagine how much time most of us spend looking for the correct information. Imagine how many duplicates of data, including bad data, are out there.
