Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I was among those who were let go yesterday

If that didn’t happen, I would have left on my own anyway. I’ve been with WF for over four years. I figured a while ago that there were no career avenues to pursue. In addition, banking jobs have been consistently degraded over time. I realized that I don’t want to wait for my job to be offshored and then find myself barely employable after being stuck in WF for years. Don’t let yourself get su-ked into this bank, you are not doing yourself a favor.

There is not only life after Wells Fargo, but a much better one. I no longer have migraines, my health and weight have improved, and my relationships with friends and family have never been better. I’m no longer working crazy hours, spending whole days in meetings while trying to somehow fit in a whole day’s worth of work, or doing things that made no sense. Like any toxic experience, there will be an adjustment period because you’ll need to give yourself sometime to let that poison work its way out of your system. After the initial shock and anxiety, my mindset improved as I saw that others weren’t impeded by their time here, either. You’ll be ok and this will be a phase that you move past mightly.

I gained a lot of skills while I lasted here, but they all came from other jobs. From tools used to poorly written procedures. There are way greener pastures elsewhere. Still, I'll miss the coffee.

You will look back and consider what they did a favor. I was let go back in March as well, similar issues for me (inept leadership, no real idea of what our team is actually supposed to do, several meetings but no actual actions, JIRA, etc) I could go on and on about how flawed the bank is but I’ll just reaffirm that you should take a breath, relax and look for something when you’re ready. Your life is much more than a bank that won’t exist 10 yrs from now.

Anyone looking to move up, yeah, WF isn't the place. Especially with the new "maybe we'll give you a raise when the next merit rolls around, maybe" policy that's in effect from promotions now. They obviously don't want anyone moving up anywhere. Personally I'm as high up as I ever want to be and am close to retirement, so I'll wait for my severance.

I agree. It is very difficult to find an area within WF that you can actually grow your career. Most of the time you will spend years and years on WF specific processes and when you are cut, you'll have no marketable skills to take with you.
Was there for over 8 years and was Chuck'd (or Charlie'd) earlier this year. Thankful for the 8 years but also realizing how big of a pickle I'm in now.
Good luck to you. Thankfully we have our 60 days and severance.

So sorry you were caught up in the ongoing displacements! It is a situation that is one of the top stressors in a human's life. Glad you will get your 60 days+ severance while you consider your next steps.
There is life outside of WF.
