Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

do people who get laid off due to poor performance get a severance?

3 years in engineering team and this year i hit a slump where i cant keep up with the changes and new direction team is going and i have a gut feeling my manager is going to fire me soon.

It's not a simple yes or no, it entirely depends on how they choose to do it. Poor performers may earn a spot on the top of the RIF list (not always) -if that happens then you're eligible for both SUB and unemployment. There's also the PIP or go option. Now if they actually fire you due to performance issues then that's another story and there is no SUB.

You don't get sub pay for poor performance. There are different release options they could offer you depending why you are being terminated which might include something similar but that has not been the case for those i had to let go. They pay you through the period with insurance covered thru end of month and thats it

No, you’re incorrect.

With Poor performance you are layed off, with SUB (which is NOT the same as severance).

On the other hand if you’re FIRED, for example, after refusing come in to work, then you are fired and no, there is no SUB nor state unemployment if you are fired.

Why do you ask this every day? The answer isn’t going to change…
Nor should you

Yes, there is both sub and unemployment unless you are fired for cause, which is not poor performance.

I was told my performance was sub-par in mid year review 2023. A couple months later I was offered a PIP or go which included a separation agreement of 12 weeks salary and benefits. My performance was fine, but I couldn't win over a senior manager. I took the package and I'm glad I did. I tried to negotiate something higher, but that went nowhere. When the 12 weeks was done I applied for unemployment. That was fine, but then BNY contested it. I filled out a form to say why I thought it was justified and they didn't push back. I landed a new job recently and I'm doing well. Hope this helps.

Is this a serious question?? If they have enough to get you for poor performance then you aren’t laid off, you are FIRED. And no, there is no SUB nor state unemployment if you are fired.
