Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

WFH Accomodation.

I need to temporarily work remote to assist my spouse as her mother is going into hospice care in FL.

Would I be likely to get a temporary accommodation for this? I don’t want to go on ST Leave and I don’t think this is covered under FMLA.

Not asking for long maybe a month max.

I agree with @bgcs+1uOtVkdi as harsh as it sounds it happened to me. I had to exhaust all my time to care for my dying father. I had to take an unpaid leave. Their first priority is themselves. They don’t care about your family I found out. My father died and I went back for a short time till I left on my own terms. Still looking for work, but glad I’m out of there. Best of luck and prayers to you and your family.

You will either need to take sick time and fmla or unpaid leave of absence. Bank could care less.

Nope! That's why I retired last year. My wife has a lot of serious health issues and after working at home for 3 years during Covid I was told it's back to the office. Work Life balance is a crock of bzdura.

@3nul+1uOtVkdi, sick/personal don’t carry over anymore? I don’t recall reading that. Is this true?

Doubt it. My wife was dying from cancer. One day she collapsed on the floor while I was at work. They didn't do cr-p for me. If it isn't you they don't care. (If it is you they pretend to.)

Since its not you that needs the accommodation, Its all upto the LOB and management.. Or you can just do it and tell your manager your doing it..

I don't get when people say good standing. Like performance wise ? So if someone is not in good standing they aren't allowed to be close to their loved one who is i'll ??

And if your manager does not know (or is not helpful), ask who your HR partner is and see if they are a good/helpful one. (some are, many are not).

And if your manager, nor HR partners can be helpful, then call the Benefits line (US 1 800.556.6044) and ask about family leave options.

@1uio+1uOtVkdi is correct that Medical Accommodation is limited to YOUR own medical situation, not other people.

Depending how long, either FMLA or LOA. You can also use your sick/personal days since we're fairly close to yearend and those don't carry over anymore.

Hopefully you are in Good Standing and have one of the rare supportive managers.

FMLA is unpaid leave.

Medical accommodations are only granted for you - if you are having a medical situation that impedes your ability to go to the office. However, for a short term situation such as this, your good standing could go a long way. Your manager hopefully will agree to allow the exception. Good luck!

Your manager has the authority to give you up to 45 days, there’s also a hardship request your manager can submit for you if it’s longer. Talk to your manager and see options

FMLA does let you request for caring for family member, it would be up to your manager.

I hate when they give this as an answer, but in this case, it is the right one: Talk to your manager.
