Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

We're better because of you. Thanks for all you do.

In appreciation for 20 years of dedicated service.

Over the past several weeks we have been evaluating certain business units within AT&T to ensure our future workforce is best aligned to meet the competitive challenges we’re facing. Reducing our workforce is a difficult decision that we don’t take lightly. We attempted to accomplish this workforce realignment through voluntary attrition; however, additional reductions are necessary. As a result and after a thorough and careful review, we have determined that the position which you currently hold will be eliminated. As a result of this decision, you will be placed on surplus status, effective the day following the date that appears at the top of this letter, and your employment will end.

We're better because of you. Thanks for all you do.

It was really hard on my grandparents when the time came for them to move into an assisted living facility. Once they got settled in they learned to like it.

They should have let me volunteer for that package. Am sure it wouldn't have saved your job because they still would have axed you in spite of it but at least I'd have gotten something. Now they're stuck with another person who doesn't want to be here and is just waiting for that package also since I'm not giving them the satisfaction of leaving on my own and getting nothing.

“There are employees that moved the 2000 miles, and then got this email.”
Fake news.

"If you want to keep your job you’ll have to move 2,000 miles was the “voluntary attrition’”"

Not true. There are employees that moved the 2000 miles, and then got this email.

And because my position is being eliminated, there will be no hand off or project status. I am eliminated and now so are you.

Best thing that ever happened to me was that letter. The oppression and co-mie-like DEI policies ended for me.

Started my own business and I don't use AT&T for comms. Never a trouble ticket either.

The freedom is immense. Embrace it. You will not be sorry.

I'm so sorry. I know how upsetting it is to get this letter. I hope things work out for the better for you. It really is an awful life experience and att has done it to so many people.

"Reducing our workforce is a difficult decision that we don’t take lightly"

Disagree with this statement. I think att has become completely desensitized to this process and it's impact on people.

Thats funny, I don't recall that attempt. Unless they're talking a decade ago.”

OP-
Is this an actual real surplus letter?

It’s sounds like Congratulations on your service and now hit the door all in the same letter !

Sometimes an employee needs someone else to help point out he or she is in a different station of life.

The good news is I doubt you sacrificed leisure time or precious time with your family due to business needs and loyalty to the company.

Oh, you did that for decades?

Damn.

Have you talked to your manager about why he or she agreed your position was no longer needed?

Work isn’t eliminated. It’s either given to someone else or off shored.

Sometimes layoffs are necessary to run a business. You don't want to have workers when there isn't enough work.

Sorry that you got laid off. This is terrible but I expect nothing less from a morally bankrupt company.

I’m literally hoping to get one of these again, except it was a teams meeting where the director read from a legal script. Fought to stay with the company, now I’m ready to go…
