Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Some supervisor s are clueless. They try to bully us.

My new supervisor is literally clueless with me. They do not know my exact age or care. I was threatened with a lower ranking for next year if I did not improve. They even mentioned firing and they could do it. The supervisor is a young newer person. I was given some improvements to be made and performance issues. They are trying to bully or scare me that I will be let go. I learned that this particular supervisor fired a few contractors because they did not like them. They are a real power hungry nut job. The supervisor does not realize I am NRE. The supervisor thinks they can fire me at will. They threatened my retirement and career. My career is done and I can get NRE performance consuling for the next 3 years if I want. You don't have to pass it. I knew a disgruntled excon employee who told them flat out they would not do the consuling plan. The employee refused to do the plan and was fine. The employee was piped two years after 55 and retired. The employee was pi---d that they were doing that to them. The employee then phoned in the next years and just waited to be piped. They were our hero sticking it to exxon. They were not excessively angry or lazy they just took it easy. The employee missed deadlines, took their vacations, and traveled as much as they could. I don't know why the supervisors are so d-mb as to bully NREs and expect to get any or good work out of them. I only think it is to make you mad and sick of exxon so you will retire. My old friend pushed the limits. The friend would call out all of the managers about ranking, favorites, and saftey violations. It was great in those meetings. My old friend had invested wisely saved their money and did not care. They were a pi---l and a hoot. Now it is my turn to have some fun. NREs are protected and dangerous. I have never been treated like this at exxon. No respect and the young one treats us like id--ts. I will rebel and fight this treatment. I do not need to progress in my dead career. So it will be a slow down and crawl to the end. This supervisor and their fellow supervisor s think they are gods who can fire people at will. Yes they can intimidate the younger people but not me. I see the way they try to scare the younger workers and it works. This is no way to treat employees and all it does is demotivates people. I will stay and fight to the end. The end for me is when I have had enough. Go out on your own terms. The old friend was piped. They went on vacation and never returned to exxon. Exxon called them at home and the friend said they were sick of exxon and the company could go to he-l. Exxon sent them correspondence for termination the employee ignored it. The old friend got paid a few extra months because of this. Exxon has a process for termination or separation. Exxon is afraid of wrongfull termination lawsuits. Eventually they got rid of my old friend but the old friend made if he'll for exxon. I loved the way my old F
Friend kicked them back. If exxon would just treat employees with respect and fairness they would get much better work from the employees. Of course this makes too much sense for a company to treat the employees fair and with some respect. Exxon allows this kind of treatment to occur at the hands of the supervisors. There have already been employees quiting because of this treatment. Company moral is horrible because of this. I don't care how much money you can make it is nit worth the bad treatment. I will not be intimidated or bullied. I just smile and say alright boss. I will be mailing my next few years. So Goodbye hard work and stress. Hello relaxation and good times.

I had a similar experience with an absolutely clueless young female supervisor. Appeared to have an IQ around 70- functional but no grasp of any concept above eating far too many donuts and creating PowerPoint slides.

It is a shame that outright dangerously stupid people are given any sway over other people’s careers at EM.

Long time ago, I needed up seeking counselling for these types of reasons. The councillor told me to leave Exxon, that he sees so many Exxon folks referred to him. That I won’t change the culture. The awful culture is an open secret around the Exxon sites.

@tbd Fortune, Forbes, and all these other arbitrary rankings assigned to companies by the business press are meaningless. They all run on the same business model and they’re all beholden to private equity.

If you’re getting bullied…bully the MF right back.

Works for me.

When my wonderful supervisor started her cr-p I just left best decision I ever made in my life. Had I stayed they would have probably carried me out in a box. No job is worth your health

Why is this tolerated in a supposed fortune 500 company? Bad management and poor uses of employees talents. I knew of several employees that were never used to their full potentials. employees with expertise in metallurgy, materials science etc. They were put in a position that did not highlight and make use of their skills and HIPOS were given the spot light. Another employee did not have an engineering degree but had the experience to do engineering work. They got their degree and asked to be moved to an engineering position. Exxon said if we want engineers we will hire them. They were told to apply for an engineering position. They found an engineering position outside of exxon. It was the best decision they ever made. My talents are wasted by having to do endless forms and BS bureaucracy. Tasks and improvements I could implement quickly are bogged down by endless meetings and red tape. Exxon is a crazy place. Insane. The sad thing is I want to do good work and improve things but cannot. I don t do it because I like the culture and the company. I do it because I like to innovate and it makes me feel good to improve things. I don t want accolades or praise I just want to able to do good work to my best abilities. This is only allowed for select few at exxon the ones they want to promote. I am forced to cruise to retirement.

A test of leadership is how they handle their first taste of power. My observation is there are very few leaders left. Most are duds whose priority is their next promotion. They keep promoting the duds. I’ve seen my fair share of intimidation, gas lighting, and bullying.
