Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

I can’t phantom how some teams will operate

Of course I don’t have the whole picture, but from what I can see and based on what I hear from some colleagues, I just can’t figure how some teams will be able to function given how badly hit they were. Even with the remaining people picking up the slack. Someone did the bad job in managing layoffs.

My understanding is that a lot of teams will be merged.

They have outsourced the work of some people to outside companies whom they are now paying and probably a lot more than they were payng that person.... does that make sense?

Plan and simple do only what you can = a workload of 1 employee. You can’t possible take on the work for others who were let go ! They were no biz concerns for cutting 1/2 of the workforce = biz is down by 50%. Do your job only not extra.

@oir+1ucjhXT8, there is still a manager above that person. Everyone has a line manager, if you don't go to HR. Or sit back and do nothing

What if the managers who would communicate all this were cut?

The good managers that are with it are actually acknowledging that sh!t su-ks to their teams. The lousy ones that are out of touch are expecting the same output and even with major dept. cuts and are expecting those left to just adapt and work more.

That's why it's key to have people in these roles that have emotional intelligence. Ignoring the writing on the wall and overworking your staff who are under a tremendous amount of stress and anticipatory anxiety isn't leadership.

Some managers even when you push back don’t seem to get the point that people are exhausted and burnout from all of this experience. Last thing on anyone’s mind is “oh yea, let’s make progress on our business objective because the show must go on”. There should be some heavy penalties for businesses that just decide to communicate 2 months before actual layoffs and still expect humans to be machines and not have any emotions or impact around this time.

Some work was meant to stop when teams were cut this drastically. Managers should be communicating that to stakeholders. If the remaining team members are being dumped with the work, they must have a sh*tty manager. They are meant to push back.
