Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What's keeping you at T?

Personally, I'm waiting to be laid off. I want to leave but I also don't want to do Stankey and his cronies any favors by walking away for free. I figured, with the frequency of layoffs, my time is bound to come within a year or two at the most, and I can last that long.

Waiting to hit Medicare age. Not staying because it is fun.

I stay out of pure spite. I have been disciplined for things others have done that I was innocent of to protect the favorite workers, I have dealt with insane managers that have no idea how our network operates, the list is too long to type. But I have 6 years until I get my 30, and I refuse to leave any of my pension money on the table. I will get my 30, then I may stay, or go. Hate, disdain and pure spitefulness keeps me going to get to the end and collect my full pension.

I will retire before being deployed again. I'm not even doing real "work". They don't want me doing something to cause a network issue. I live alone and it has caused a lot of stress trying to take care of animals, bills, yard, etc. doing this 13 days on, 1 day off six hours from home.

I remember Ward “the deacon” from Bellsouth when you would see his bald head wandering down the hallway on the 44th floor. He survived because he was protected by Bill Smith (another clueless suit). Now they just need to put him to pasture I can’t imagine he actually does any work.

I get paid to do my job. That's what keeps me at T. Every company has problems, and being a veteran I know things could always be worse. I'm not looking for an exit, planning to leave, or complaining about the day to day knocks. It's been a good job to me, so I keep showing up. Simple.

Fear of change but, after being told to leave my job with no notice, no severance, no union pay, no benefits and no unemployment; I’ve had a real change of heart.

Also under Sleepy Ward.

Worst thing about RTO is being on display trying to stay awake through the sleepy town halls and the infamous Agile diatribe snooze fest.

Yes, please enlighten us experts about how we need more robust requirements up front because it costs more to make changes later in the software cycle.
Why don’t you write a book about it and hand it out at your next traveling roadshow.
I’ll even help you with the title:
“Chewy’s Guide To Agile 2.0, The Waterfall Edition”

In the back of the book you can include valuable coupons redeemable exclusively at a RTO location near you:
A coupon to join the ticket to ride program and ride the infinity loop! Next stop: PI: 999.
A coupon for a free scoop of ice cream (nothing says forget about your Wave 3 coworkers being let go like a big fat scoop of tutti-fruiti huh Chewy?
And the best coupon of all. A new Bose noise cancelling headset. The only headset guaranteed to cancel out that bloated big mouth in the office, and also whatever you are babbling about on MS Teams at the same time.

Other than that, fine job. Carry on. Keep being the poster child of why the top brass is mowing us all down.

Another Mod 75 candidate here. Started here at 32 years of age. Had a couple of J licences from other trades. I like the work. I like the customers.
I also like abject honesty. One lie leads to another. There's a bunch of ur--e down everyone's back being labeled as rain.
At&t is a illusion, don't build your world around it. Family, faith and community last. I've never found that here. If this is your island, don't hate the non believers.

I’m looking to retire in about five years. Why would I start over somewhere else at this point? Easier to just ride it out

Go easy on Ward, I think he may have early onset dementia. I don't see any other explanation for his odd behavior

It's NOT the hot babes or intellectual conversation. To be honest, high quality escorts and entertainment narcotics are expensive. I'm sorry if I've disappointed anyone. Normal is what you are accustomed to. Peace...

" Next team meeting, ask d-mb or insulting questions. I was gone the next round. "

You can also just ask (volunteer). It's usually accommodated in my experience.

T should be voted ‘the worst place to work’. Stankey and his minions created this toxic job environment. They ki-led the morale and culture. Wonder how long this can last before it collapses. Nothing will save this place as long as Stankey and his cronies are here.

Also under Ward.
Used to go out of my way to produce libraries used company wide for various network software we use (trying to be intentionally vague here)
Always tried to go the extra mile, had a bunch of side projects, was involved in helping outside orgs and employee resource groups…chaired a few orgs, helped with TDP recruitment, was on interview teams…

Then RTO (forced relocation) happened and I lost all motivation for everything.
I still do my job, but the bare minimum most days. I know it’s just a matter of time til I get a letter and it’s all over so what’s the point?
I hate what this company has become, I used to enjoy going to work now I can’t stomach it most days.
I legit hate Stankey and have more motivation to be maliciously compliant and fu-k over the company than I do to work.

The severance. Been here for over 14 years so I think that comes out to 50% of my salary. Too much to walk away from so I gotta wait it out. I'm on the surplus list already but they won't cut me loose just yet.

Next team meeting, ask d-mb or insulting questions. I was gone the next round. This worked for me and this site shows I was right to go to a more peaceful and rewarding life.

“ Personally, I'm waiting to be laid off. I want to leave but I also don't want to do Stankey and his cronies any favors by walking away for free.”

You’ve got it exactly right!
I went from being the guy that went out of my way, above and beyond and with genuine intent to give it my all everyday, to being the guy that can’t wait to be let go.
I’m in ATS under Ward and I’ve seen just about all I can stand at this point. I’m embarrassed for him personally. I won’t go into details here but this guy has been asleep at the wheel for a long time with his “phone it in” leadership style. Tells me all I need to know about the leadership above and below him.

I can no longer witness the absolutely repulsive treatment of my fellow employees, I cannot wait until I receive a surplus letter. I get it, T wants to reduce staff and is too cowardly to man up. But Zombie tone-deaf leadership that torments the lives of their employees in a geographic game of three card monty is beyond redeemable. Where even if you decide to move your job suddenly disappears yet a new requisition appears to replace you.

No, not for me. Not anymore. Pay me. Keep paying me. Keep paying me until I feel satisfied that the score is even for what you are putting us through.

You think quitting in place was bad? How about a FU in place.
I will help my friends. I will help our business clients (so that they don’t put me in the same category as my id--tic leadership). I will produce only what can be tracked and that’s it.
You reap what you sow. You get what you give. Nobody is buying your horse $hit anymore T. Congratulations. Your an abject failure through and through.

Wave 2 layoffs are happening now and Stakey received a 3 million dollar raise for doing such a great job. Now, I’m just waiting for my email and severance then I’ll retire. Randall, Stankey and their merry band have changed the company culture for the worse, never seen morale so low in all my 44 years of working here.

Now they have picked an unnecessary fight with bargained employees, it’s one poor decision after another, when will it stop? All the previous district contracts have been settled or have a TA. I believe this is the last one, get it done because it’s disrupting a lot of lives including a lot of our customers and they pay the bills.
