Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Is Cisco Meraki affected?

Curious. Just joined after graduating college. I’m a temp and figured theres always a chance I could be cut but curious if anyone can give advice to an entry level person that has less than half a year experience (assuming my team gets laid off) Thanks a ton

Now that Meraki is getting merged into the mother ship you can expect majority of Meraki folks will be let go in next 12 months

Im guessing there will be strategic cuts in Meraki. The sales teams were merged with EN to form “Cisco Networking” sales team. Long term, it won’t make sense to operate a siloed Meraki Support and Escalations when we already have TAC. As for PM, Meraki hardware has been traditionally cheaper and the dashboard is really well received by many customers. If Cisco pumps money into Meraki, it will hurt Catalyst and if they do away with Meraki, they will lose the recurring revenue from Meraki licensing which is a substantial portion of our annual recurring revenue. Therefore everything Meraki does will be using Cisco hardware so that either way, Cisco makes money. This strategy puts a lot of product teams at risk, but we’re surely a few years away from realizing this future.

Meraki and catalyst will see attrition over time. They do not play well with security and operated as silos with what was best for them, as opposed to what's best for the customers. Moreover, their revenues are declining and wanted to count security revenue as networking growth. So hence the changes at the top. It's only a matter of time, they merge and consolidate and Integrate deeper.

Yes. More than possible. Plenty of graduates have been laid off at Cisco before with less than six months of tenure. Keep interviewing elsewhere - you are still young so don't let Cisco hold you back.

Merkai dashboard is the only thing positive and that's only just ok. Meraki hardware is a completely talent-less group, they are nothing but ODM shoppers buying me too hardware. Not sure on this layoff but long term Meraki brings nothing to the table more than a Chinese reference design. And politically, Meraki is run like a middle school clique so if that's not your thing or you're not physically in SFO, don't even think about it.

Meraki is doing well ! Not sure about the new features and innovations at Meraki ! Switching is being transferred to catalyst switches.

Any update from the meraki folks ?

Gut feel only but following the merge of secure networking and meraki sales functions there are bound to be cuts. Just how deep and wide and I which side?

For now try not to sweat it. It’s all probably locked in so what will be will be. Get your head down and keep doing your job, you never know where your next opportunity or reference is going to come from!!
