I'm worried they're going to mess with the severance package before layoffs. I can't think of a worse thing they can do than reduce severance right before they lay people off, and somehow that seems like exactly the kind of thing this leadership would do.

Most likely, those laid off Sept. 16th will get their severance payout at the end of November (after exit date).

They’ve been really clear what the package is. I would not spend time concerning myself with changes there.
Cisco is extremely generous when it comes to severance. I wouldn’t worry about it.
I was laid off from Cisco in 2023. They did not play any games with my package. They paid in two lump sums fairly close to each other. They did not provide an itemized explanation of what was paid when or if they took out taxes. When I received a W2 for the next year they did in fact pull out taxes so I was not stuck with a large tax bill the following April.
