Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Transition period

So, you got accepted for early retirement… and you still have 12 of your 20 vacation days sitting unused for 2024… do you: a) intend to burn through all of them? b) use maybe 1-2 per week during September? c) don’t use any and help fully with transition/training; or d) some other?

If you won't get paid out for your unused vacation days, then take them. Because you're owed them.

If you do get paid out for your unused vacation days, then you need to ask yourself if you'd rather have the cash. Are you prepared for retirement? Do you already have a job lined up? If you're in the US and you're retiring and you're under 65, health insurance costs are going to be a shock once the prepaid COBRA runs out.

I found on Circuit that vacation should be prorated on exit. I’m working with my boss to take the vacation I’m owed.

@1pga… if you put up with the bulls-!t so far than you are submissive by definition, Why walk away from a few hundred thousand in compensation to prove you are tough. This would only prove that you are an I’d-iot but people who know you are already aware of this.

If you don’t comply with the transition plans you could risk termination and no severance. You think that would be the best choice? Endure another few weeks of bs and then leave.. you can sound as tough as you want on this site but you will be a pu--y that complies with whatever they tell you… or walk away with nothing.

Good luck forcing anyone to come in and do any work as you are already working on exit plans. Even if they are "passing off knowledge" the quality and amount of effort if present will depend on the mood of the employee.

Go take all your vacation, you earned it, and you already have the package, they will not touch you, they have enough legal issues rising up from all this, that team won't have any time to deal with some whiny director/VP complaining about people taking vacation time. If your in a rare location that is going to pay you for unused vacation, maybe consider holding to get a bigger paycheck on the way out. But even then I would take it all and ensure I am only back for the last day. Good luck on your next endeavor.

Are you really going to quibble about a dozen days of vacation time that isn't even tracked. The early retirement package was a lot better than expected. Take it, be happy you will soon be free. Focus your attention on life after Intel.

TD proposal published today is pro-rating the 3- or 4- weeks of vacation to 3 quarters -- so only 10 of 15 days available this year. Also, those leaving will need written permission from manager to take any days off in September. The guidance is "business continuity takes precedence over vacation scheduling," so I expect many people will be opted into your option c by management.
