Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

The clock is winding down on Benefits for the CWA membership

Seen much bragging about savings, pre-planning, and withdrawing money from 401K retirement savings. Health benefits are different though, aren't they? Sure, some members are covered by a spouse, others may not care because they've never had to use it. For the remainder, not being capable of providing a stable income and medical coverage for your loved ones is a hard pill to swallow, isn't it? You're called a brother or sister when they want you to support them, but how many of those with "massive" savings are willing to share now that your nuclear family is in need? That clock is winding down for you. The thrill is wearing off and reality is settling in. The CWA doesn't care about the needs of your family. Do you?

“ Your college kids will never get a shot here I'm afraid.”

None of my collegiate kids will ever work at the toxic T. Used to be a wonderful place to work until SBC leadership ruined it, wouldn’t recommend it. Just biding my time till retirement, won’t be long.

"“If profits continue to climb we will actually be hiring” The VP agreed."

There was never a halt or a pause on hiring. They haven't been waiting on stock prices or profits to hire. You can setup alerts in Workday to send you the daily new jobs that are posted. Since June of 2023, I can see that hiring never stopped for Dallas, Israel, India, and Bratislava. Some pop ups for Virginia. The one area that I never saw any job growth in, was Atlanta. Israel just plastered on linkedin that they started up a TDS program and brought in 20 new TDS people for their Research and Development group. 4 major areas. That means that 3/4 of the hiring for the company is distributed to non-US territories. ATT isn't priming the company for young growth in the US, its priming it in other countries. Stankey isn't just sweeping out the old, he's building ATT business in other countries. Your college kids will never get a shot here I'm afraid.

This statement is ridiculous.

"AT&T executives have a loose relationship with the truth"

We had a question about job security on a town hall the other day and the VP gave the question to a Director who said “If profits continue to climb we will actually be hiring” The VP agreed. Now what do you think? Profits are climbing and we are having managers train people in Bangalore India and within 60 days laid off 2 employees. Now they’ve hired 5 more in India. That crew is done for and they know it. That crew maintains connectivity for the transport fiber equipment. AT&T has 282 positions open now in Bangalore India. These are good technical positions that are open over there. They pay about 7k$ per year US dollars for engineers. If your not hands on look out. This is an aggressive plan to offshore much more of the workforce. They will lie to you and tell you your safe up until the day you get 2 weeks notice.

Company trolls still trying to fear monger. If they do decide to cancel healthcare, they have to send a notice which starts the 14 day clock then the 60 day clock to opt-in and finally a 45 day clock to make payment for Cobra. In other words plenty of time before you would even need to opt-in and even longer to pay for Cobra. They have to abide by laws it’s not, let's make up our own rules to deny employee’s health care coverage. Not a good PR move, already have ULP charges filed.

Now for the more pressing problem after Labor Day, what’s for lunch? I’m thinking of grilling chicken to put on a salad and make a couple of key lime pies 🥧

As posted on CWA local 3204

The company has not decided to discontinue healthcare benefits for employees on strike at this time."

As of this time the company has not cancelled healthcare benefits, and therefore the 60 day COBRA opt-in

period has not started to run. As soon as CWA gets more information or different information, we will notify members immediately

The true cost of healthcare is unknown...

Look at your Statements of Benefits. I see what the doctor bills; I see what the company's contracted/bargained rate is, and I see what I owe. Can I do that for everyone in the company--no. All it takes is one chronic or severe illness. Or heck, even a trip to the ER for something relatively small or the birth of a child. Or a colonoscopy, even, will make your eyes water. But unless you're 100% healthy and never go to the doctor for anything (including family members), you probably cost more than you think. Be hopeful you stay that way, and take advantage of the covered (paid for) preventative visits to keep it that way (including annual physicals, any applicable well woman exams, kids' checkups, skin cancer checks, annual vaccinations, etc. ALL of which are covered by insurance.)

Borrowing from your 401k is usually a very bad idea, and it's pretty reckless to advise anyone else to do so without knowing their complete picture. If you are closer to retirement than you are to the drinking age, or there's a snowball's chance you will leave your job before you repay it, you will be in for a nasty surprise. Plus you miss out on all that potential growth while you repay it. Now if you have a Roth IRA, that's better to take a loan, but you're still robbing your future.

The real question is, how long will the company continue to abuse their CP workforce? They aren’t built or skilled enough to handle 12/6 for weeks or months on end. The latest company bargaining post already said they are bringing relief, basically because they can’t handle it and need rest. Nor should they have too, all it takes is for the company to bargain in good faith and come to some kind of fair agreement. From the latest CWA post, it appears that the company is starting to head in that direction but still at a snails pace, at least they are negotiating, just don’t know if it’s still in bad faith.

Hopefully after this strike, more managers will have an appreciation for the jobs that bargained employees do everyday. They aren’t getting the full Monty of having to meet expectations, metrics or working a full load, the jobs are scrubbed but at least they have a small taste.

Just returned from early services and wanted to see the Godless posts the gutter rats started this glorious Sunday with. They don't disappoint that's for sure. Keep spouting ridiculous lies, it's what you do best.

I assume most of the strikers went down to Home Depot to get a job to make ends meet while on strike.

Also if you have extenuating circumstances such as a family member with cancer etc. talk to your local they can make the cobra payments for you if it actually goes that far.

No matter what anyone on this post says , your insurance is still in place. The company has to give 14 day notice that your insurance will be canceled, as of 9/ 1 they have not. After the notice you will then have 45 days to start paying cobra payments.

So do not believe the scabs and disgruntled managers on this site. Pass the word on your picket lines and stay strong brothers and sisters.
