UK court finds Citi unfairly dismissed employee who did nothing wrong

July 2024:

Also that Citi:

  • - did not carry out a reasonable investigation
  • - did not have reasonable grounds for believing the employee was guilty
  • - demonstrated hostility towards the employee
  • - did not carry out a reasonable investigation

there was 'repeated inaccurate representation' by the Associate General Counsel (Litigation & Regulatory Investigations), who was the Lead Investigator.

Well done Mr Weir!

Court's judgment & reasons are here:

Seems like the default Citi bully tactics did not work.
Now, its time for a fine, which funnels down to lower rewards for everyone else at Citi while we sit back and watch Jane get yet another raise, stock awards in the amount of millions yet once again. Joy.

There should be a heavy fine so that there's a stop to this.

Citi is not in control of its managers, business, and HR is lacking as they actively participate in wrongful terminations. Check the court records.

Quit firing is against the law in NY as of Feb 2023. Please know this quiet firing is done by poorly skilled lazy managers with no MBA. The investigators in Mr. Weird case are repeat offenders. Who knows maybe they will become Executive Trainers.

Citigroup disparaged employees then fired them in NYC as well.

Repeatedly abused and took advantage. They know far better than this. Shameful

It is often a personal power trip led by bad managers.

I went through the same he-l with Citi. My message to anyone DO NOT trust Citi's HR or Employee relations or ethic hotline or Citi investigators. They are not your friend, they are there to protect Citi!

The guy is an equity trader - traders can get fired for all kinds of reasons. They work in a very grey area of the business - hence why they are rewarded well. But the seat is not guaranteed by any means. Just the nature of the beast.

This happens in all companies. The companies want the employee to quit voluntarily so that the companies do Not need to pay severance, medical benefits and other employee benefits under the law. When the employee refuses to quit voluntarily, the companies set up and frame the employee for wrongdoing.

It must have been so stressful for Mr Weir even he've won the case. I wonder how many people had the similar experience but stayed quiet. Why would citi do this to its employees.
