I’m sincerely hoping to get booted this round and move on. I’m middle aged, and have been here for seven years. Too long. The longer I stay, the less employable I will be and more likely to get ambushed here at any moment and more unprepared to what’s coming than now. I did use my time at Cisco to improve skills, and have been investing a lot into staying current. I hope that gives me better chances on the market. Better to move on now than not be able to move anywhere in a couple of years.

I was LR in Feb 24 and I have a big package. I also received a lot of money from Cisco.
It's just SO crazy they are giving us a month of suspense to find out who is impacted. It is borderline cruel. For ELT to then expect anyone to be productive this month is laughable.
Back in Chamber's days, they would announce the reductions 4-6 months in advance. Then Robbins took over and his 1st round of LR's was announced in the FY16 year-end earnings call and US workers were notified the next morning and everyone screamed about how cruel and unfair it was to axe people w/o any warning at all, because they had made big life decisions based on the year-end bonus that was coming, or planned non-refundable trips in the fall/winter, etc.
You just can't be satisfied. Being LR'd su-ks. I've experienced it as both no-notice/rip-the-bandaid-off and as early-notification/get-ready-here-it-comes type of notifications. And, unlike Cisco, those companies didn't give but 2 weeks severance and an additional 2 weeks plus 1 week per year of service if you signed the agreement not to sue the company. Try finding a job in 2-4 weeks!

Just leave now. What's keeping you here? No one is forcing you to stay but your greed in wanting a big severance package as you leave.
As you said, it's better to move on now, _at your timeline_ where you get a job lined up and give your notice (one hour or 2 weeks or whatever) so that you have uninterrupted income. If you wait for the "big package", you then have to compete for jobs against everyone else who was impacted at the same time and there's a much higher risk that there will be more job seekers than jobs at that time and that the big severance package you get won't last you long enough to get a new job in time to be able to save any of that severance package.
God, does Cisco really hire such id--ts that they don't have common sense?
Can layoffs be done already, so we can all get back to our lives?
Cisco has already said they're only spending $700M-$800M of the $1B charge this round which means $200M-$300M is already in the chamber for the next layoff. If you let the threat of layoffs prevent you from living you'll be dead for the rest of your life.
Just start interviewing now.

In most European countries this takes 4-5 months.
At least with 1 month you can actually start looking for a new job already AND anticipate a redundancy pay out as your new job will likely commence AFTER everything is wrapped up.
