It's always your manager though the mechanism may change.

It's also often your manager if you are unable to get another role within the company.

My managers have no clue. Only the VP knows, and he isn’t saying anything. Of course FLMs have “input” but it’s all held at the VP level this time.

Speaking as a former Cisco leader who left a couple years back, who still hopes for the best for the good people working at the company (but a bit sour on the higher up leadership) I have unfortunately had to layoff around 50 people in my time there over the various LR's. The FLM is the decision maker, the next level is the inspection and review justification layer with some ability to shift choice, and that is it. 2 levels up it is all numbers and percentages.

Regardless, to the good people who have talent in your subject area - there are good jobs in the market (challenges if you are not geography flexible, remote work flexible, etc.) and you will do fine. It is just a question of time.

Most of the posts here negative and pot-valiant, but it is a good source for updates that you may otherwise miss if you can sift through the noise.

Good luck to all!

All B’S …. Don’t believe the manager and directors.

All decisions made my manager. Manager rates and give a list to the upper level. Manager puts you in to the bottom of list to be picked for LR. manager and director decide who is not required based on performance, or if they don’t like you.

Manager trained by HR, and upper level mafia to state that they did not make the decisions. Who are they trying to fool ! Do you think that VP picks a random name like a lottery ticket ? Wake up and don’t get fooled by the trained guilty manager !!

In other cases, a whole team might be gone due to product revenue or team is outsourced to some other country.

I like how managers are washing their hands when it comes to who gets picked for LR. Speaking as a manager I can 100% confirm on nearly every occasion I have had input on who gets the chop.

All those saying “butFK said on the beat FLMs!” … so we are believing the ELT now are we?? Because this line is right up there with “we will hold ourselves to account” … while firing 12000 people for our F&ck ups!?!?!?

VP and above. No discussion below that. FLMs inc Directors (in marketing at least) are just given the final list and told to make the calls

FK said one of the most asked questions during the leadership call was who was going to give names and she said it be FLMS

Think about it. Who is on the leadership call? FLMs. Why would they ask that question? Because they’d not been asked to make that decision.
The VP’s all knew, but could say nothing because of the NDAs.

Fran said very clearly on the Cisco Beat a few weeks ago FLMs were going to be the decision makers in most cases

No, she said FLM would have INPUT. She NEVER said they would make the final decision.

who was going to give names and she said it be FLMS

Yes, “give names” of likely people, but that’s it. Decision is made above them.

There's no need to speculate here. The other poster is right about the Cisco Beat. I joined it as well and FK said one of the most asked questions during the leadership call was who was going to give names and she said it be FLMS and in a few occasions someone else. Black and white.

In previous rounds, directors nominated with no input from line managers.

My manager (director) said he had to give some data but decision was not upto him - it might have been a way of shifting blame or might be true. Who knows

Not true. Fran said very clearly on the Cisco Beat a few weeks ago FLMs were going to be the decision makers in most cases. Before yall start accusing me of being wrong to me and watch the Beat recording.

VP and above this time. Sr. Directors in some rare cases

Direct managers throw names in a bucket and it’s almost like a draft for VPs and Directors to participate.
