Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Cisco really wants to get rid of you if you’re in California/San Jose AND/OR

You have stock grants waiting to mature they’ll take them back. No vesting either. Instead of a stock buyback Cisco STEALS the stock back by LR’ing you. They never intended for the stock to vest when they issued it to you. It’s not like before. I wish I would have not accepted that stock and moved on. It’s just a dangling carrot waiting to be snatched out of your hands.

San Jose face it we cost Cisco too much $$ with our salaries and California has too many laws to protect us.

Cali won’t just let Cisco f*u-k is over.

SO anyone in San Jose or California get your sh*t together because if you aren’t laid off this time it’s just a matter of when!!

If you're in SJ and your job can be done by someone in LATAM, its only a matter of time.

OP might want to look at Amazon. The vast majority of their stock doesn't vest until after their second anniversary and the vast majority are terminated before that date.

One irony is the Cisco stock you did own got a 10% bump due to the layoff announcement. Another irony is most of you will need stocks to keep rising if you ever hope to retire when you are an investor rather than an employee.

It’s true they took my stock grant and gave me less than my stock grant with the LR package. My stock was worth more.

For senior, high performing workers, the lost stock can exceed the severence payout by a significant amount, creating a net gain for Cisco on the LR.

My manager straight up told us "Cisco is looking to open new roles in states with lower cost of living"

Since the exit day is after the November vesting, then you should be able to keep the 2023 RSUs if you meet the "rule of 70", which is service + age >= 70, but you must also be > 60 and > 5 years service. It's in the grant documents - read them.

Fly into Mexico and walk across the border.

For sure there will be a disproportionate number of cuts in the USA. back in Feb we had impact in Cali, in RTP and in Canada. So I’m expecting the same this time around too. India will also be hit as just a performance oriented cut.

I can confirm San Jose is going to get hard. I am not trying to troll, there is life after Cisco.

Cisco sold most of the buildings in San Jose & Milpitas. Growth companies don't sell their headquarters for peanuts.

that's just one factor but there are many other factors come into play leading up to the decision of who to layoff. The most important factor though is your manager as he/she is the one who rank you on the list. If you're at the bottom of the list, you're a goner if your team is affected, plain and simple.

RSUs have the same $ value as in San Jose as Phoenix

Take all your USD savings and move where they are hiring. You'll live like a king.

Most of my peers were LR’d that were tied to San Jose back in Feb. I know I’m up next. Geographically discriminating against us but there is no law to stop it. It’s not a protected class.
