If the lists are already out, why do we have to wait until next week to find out if our name is on there? This isn't fair to us or our managers. Imagine knowing who on your team is going to be let go and you have to keep up pretenses for another week or so. It's not good for anybody.

I agree with the person that said legal reasons.
The layoff is not set in stone until legal approves and this can go right down to the wire.
This is why managers cannot give somone on the list a warning since they can be potentially removed from the list a the last moment.
Unfortunately, this is exceedingly rare but I have seen it happen once. The person even had a one on one meeting that was canceled at the last minute.
No one is stopping you from applying to other jobs and jumping ship. It's what many people on this forum have already preemptively done. Whether you're on the LR list or not, the company is done for.
