Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Chart the rise and fall of the name with people's opinions - Says it all

When I joined (1998) people asked: You mean the food delivery company?
From Y2K till say 2003: Whoa, you work there? Cool.
From 03 till 08: Nice, must be a solid job
(left in 08, came back in 2012): Hmm, interesting choice. Why there?
2012 to 2015: Have you looked at what else is out there?
(Left in early 15, came back in early 16, stayed till 18): You must be getting good money, otherwise why are you there?
Looking for work for about 3 months in early 2018: Whoa, why'd you stay so long and go back? Must be something wrong with you
2024 (Peer hiring managers and internal recruiters we use) - Good luck finding a good candidate from there. Listen to their whole story before you instantly reject. Some are worth looking at.

Final word - If it's your time, enjoy the break, and just go get something to do to bring the money in and stay mentally busy. Might be a long time if your network fails you or can't deliver, might be super quick. Either way, it's definitely better on the other side!

For the past ten years all I get is "that's the WebEx company. Here is a long list of everything that we hate about that" even though I never worked on WebEx.

Whoa, why'd you stay so long and go back?

If you're designing some of the fanciest chips and boards I can see staying. If you're bug fixing slop for decades I would consider you unemployable. Cisco did bring in a lot of people who had talent on day one but there is something in the coffee that makes most extremely stupid, and like frogs in pots they don't know it's happened.

People ask me if it's the food company in 2024. We've come full circle

Great, I was thinking Cisco on my resume would be a benefit. Oh well. :)
