Are New Hire Impacted By This Layoff?

I got hired 3 weeks ago and I'm kinda stressing that I could be impacted by this as this is my first job :(

"Cisco needs to be publicized as a sht company."

Join my efforts to get the word out.

No matter what they put in the severance agreements, DOL has ruled that you can speak out about employee conditions.

Sad to say this company has totally lost the plot, i am not even sure they can recover from here. They have resorted to en masse hiring and then mass firing culture where employees are now like commodities which can be bought or discarded anytime. The human element is totally missing they don't care about your feelings or tough situations or anything else. My advice to all youngsters is pick and choose companies wisely see if it has an history of mass layoffs and what is the frequency avoid them. Also avoid companies with heavy employee exposure to cheaper countries you will eventually be let go once they keep expanding to cheaper areas. Always upskill and keep relevant to market at any given moment you should be able to interview and be able to market your skills.

I was laid off right after getting hired. It’s the most insulting thing ever.

Why the fk is Cisco interviewing when they knew the role was going to get cut months later? It makes no damn sense.

I truly regret accepting Cisco’s offer. I left a stable high paying job for more money and career growth. I almost want to sue the sht out of them!

Cisco needs to be publicized as a sht company. Fk that place and everyone who made the decision to layoff the company for more $.

I apologize for my unprofessional language but this place sc--wed me and my family.

You probably came in at a much lower salary than anyone doing the same work if you can do it competently. That makes you as safe as you can be considering it's csco.

Getting use to it as it will happen again next year or 6 months.

If you were hired 3 weeks ago you’re probably fine. That’s after the layoff announcement. And you’re probably not that expensive if it’s your first job.

OP dude did you not know what kind of a company you were joining. Are you that id--t not to know cisco is the layoff mecca of the world everyone in the street knows. I stopped saying i work for cisco for fear of ridicule. Do you want us to empathize with your stupid decision. Next time research a company well before you join. Just be happy cisco gives 6 months package to even id--ts like you who has not even contributed a year of service.

You are probably ok. Just know another is coming in 6 mos. Your team will be reorganized 7xs in the next three years if you stay. Those reorganizations will block any promotions you most likely deserve.

Just start looking now for your next move now. I’m sorry this is your first experience, I promise not every workplace is like Cisco.

If you are hired recently, that means your department needs manpower, and most likely safe in the near future, the worst thing is that there is no new hire at all from this year, even have some one resigned but no foll in, that means that department oversized and need to be cut to make balance with revenue in that business.

Do they hire people so they can then LR them and keep their good people?

The list of LR candidates was probably already decided, so you don't need to worry about it.

There is a reason Cisco is known for cutting edge as they keep bleeding newly hires just to balance old timers with newly hired. There is no rational or logic behind, not even the budget considering for new hires. This is just a number, no heart beat involved.

New hires and H1B's should avoid this company like a plague at all costs , its constant layoffs every 6 months you can be kicked out anytime very difficult to land in a new role and worst for H1B they have to leave the country if they can't find a job in 2 months time. They won't process GC perm since the layoffs are every 6 months. Think carefullly before joining this company if you have any green card ambitions.

It's more than possible. Many graduates at Cisco have been let go before with less than 6-months tenure purely because of bad timing. Please keep your CV up to date.

I wish I had of known about this board before but I got let go and didn’t even make 90 days. Now I have a gap in my employment history that I’m sure is causing me to get skipped over when I apply for new jobs. I hate this company they just ruin peoples lives with their stupidity. Lesson learned do your homework and research potential employers thoroughly.

I lost my job with Cisco after 8 months and I didn’t even get all of my contract fulfilled. All of those empty promises to lure me from my other job. Like who does that? What in the HE-L did you hire me for? Like, didn’t you know the job was not needed? Just freaking weird. I was able to go back to my old job because my company was unable to fill my position in those 8 months fortunately.

I got laid off in February after 6 months. I left a stable job to go to Cisco where I worked for 12 years only to find myself unemployed for the first time in my career. They do not care and tenure means nothing to them. Old or new you’re treated the same with regards to an LR. The best thing to do is avoid Cisco or if there to look for jobs everyday all day.
