Drill on 9/16

What’s the drill for layoff?

  • are we expected to work after the notice from manager ?
  • If I accept another offer within 60 days severance window , will I still be paid severance ?
  • how about work hand off ?

The reply on cobra is wrong, age does not prevent you from taking the 18 months of cobra. I used cobra for 18 mos when i was 62. You cannot get medicare until you are 65.

Every sentence in this comment is incorrect except the first one.

Your badge won't work after 48 hours. At that point you'll also lose access to about 90% of Cisco web sites, with just essential functions available. Also you won't be able to--- wait for it--- attend the next Cisco Beat on Sept 30!!!

You'll still have email. Phone will cutoff about a week after you are terminated. Agree that losing medical coverage is a big deal for most people. Also if you are over 60 PLEASE realize that COBRA will NOT cover you directly, it's only secondary to Medicare, which you probably haven't registered for yet because you were covered with a corporate plan. Watch out for that one

I don't know if it is different in a whole company LR but I and my whole department was LRed a few years ago and basically what happened was you no longer work after you are notified. I feel bad for all the other teams that had to take out backlogs. Next cisco gave us 30 days paid to find new jobs. We also recieved 3 months of health care. We would come into the office or from home still have access to everything to find a new job within cisco or find one external. On your last day you turn everything in and the severance hit very shortly after. Not sure if Cisco still handles these things the same way anymore. I know over time the packages have gotten less and less kind of like out healthcare options. Also, if you are still in US based TAC ensure your resume is up to date. Feels like the ship is slowly sinking doesn't it.

My package states that an email will be sent to my email address on file in Workday, and the document must be signed on my exit date via Docusign.

Is that 100% certain and speaking from experience on the laptop needed last day to get severance pay? seems odd and like a pain. I expected it would just be a direct deposit same as last 2 months pay.

"Also if you are over 60 PLEASE realize that COBRA will NOT cover you directly, it's only secondary to Medicare"

Medicare is for those over 65.

And you will need your cisco laptop in order to accept the severance on your final day.
you should download all the info from the transition site on the first day, because DUO will lock you out of most websites ( DUO has bugs it has issues with cached cookies )

You are officially off the clock. They dropped you so you drop them back and enjoy your time off until you find another job.

Nope. The minute you are notified, you should down tools immediately and work on finding another job (in Cisco, or out). The whole point of an LR is that your job has been made redundant. Your job function is no longer necessary, so why would you need to work? You shouldn't need to do any handoff either. Your work isn't necessary anymore, so why would you need to hand stuff off that isn't needed? Focus on yourself if you're notified.

I didn't have to work the notice so I stayed for one month primarily to find another role internally but nothing really took my fancy. I took pay in lieu of 2nd month notice as I just wanted out. You receive a pack that includes alias for return of laptop. You just need to print a return label and let them know when ready. They then collect laptop from you so no need to bring into office.

You can accept an external offer within the 60 days. Once informed you no longer have work.

My only tip is to look into the Health Insurance Marketplace. Cobra can get very expensive.

I was let go late last year .

Once you are informed you are under no obligation to work. They ask that you make yourself available to manager for a handover . Unfortunately my manager was of the needy sort so I made myself available even though I wanted to tell him to go f himself , I stayed professional.

Yes you still get severance .

Great questions! Anyone know?? I certainly would want to have the laptop in the mail back to them same day and wash my hands of the place. Wouldnt surprise me if its some corporate bullsh-t they expect you to sign on for 2 months and not do anything or they hold the $$$ if you dont,
