Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Think twice before quitting

Many who leave end up regretting it. The grass may seem greener, but it often isn't. I'm not saying not to quit, just don't rush into it. Go ahead and downvote this, but you know I'm right.

why would you leave if you dont have a plan? the only reason to quit is if you found a better job or plan to retire early. isnt this common sense? of course the grass is greener literally anywhere.

Well, if the next job is not better than BNY, then I will quit that job and look for another job. This is the name of the game. Go let BNY keep abusing you. It is not my concern.

Racist? Where, how and when do you see that? Let’s put it this way, are black and white TV’s racist? Are k-mart $19.95 suits racist? Chinese watches? Is mcDonalds junk food racist? Smart mini cars racist? No. They are simply cheap, one dimensional, disposable alternatives. Everything the offshore workers have learned and do was developed in North America and western Europe. This bank likes cheap, simple, disposable appliances. It looks to increase profit margins by using cheap and manual solutions. Thats what the Hand held India team is. They are fine for what they are but they are not any more than one dimensional cheap appliances that need lots of guidance. And even they are going to be targets soon thanks to AI which the bank will inevitbly get right some day. So Mr. ‘Ya’ll Racist’, please take your blinders and cover yourself with them.

Original poster,
You are so wrong and so badly misguided on this that the question arises did you even think before writing this? Think! This place is removing skilled workers just because they cost too much in one area. And so, they are replaced by cheap, less skilled, one dimensional people in India and areas where lax labor laws benefit management. The place also sees high turnover of people leaving because of the lack of direction, no cross training, high stress and brute force management that has become the norm. When a house is on fire, you don’t putter around, you get out quick for safety. And if that doesnt work, you repeat.

I'll play devil's advocate here. Me and my coworkers are a little older - 50's. Those that have been laid off in the past 3 or 4 years have had a he-l of a time finding work with comparable pay. Many just end up back here begrudgingly. BNY New England area. It's not that easy out there.

Everyone I know that left is in a much better place: mentally and career wise. They’ve been promoted several times. Much better on the outside. It’s why our fearless leader is so big on mental health. He knows what this nonsense is doing to us.

Of course don't just quit without being thoughtful, but don't let fear of change or the unknown be the thing that keeps you here. You will never know how much better things can be if you never bother to see what's out there. No company is "perfect" but a job interview is as much about a candidate vetting a company as the other way around. I was afraid of pursuing a change for a long time but once I did, I made sure to ask questions to understand the culture of every firm I talked to. I landed an absolutely fantastic position. Kind of mad at myself for waiting so long.

I would say just leave this god forsaken place if you can. Pay is bullsh-t, most people are so unhappy they take it against each other, nothing new to learn technology wise, stupid managers...etc etc etc...Run

Quitting BNYM voluntarily is literally the best decision I have made so far. I am able to payoff debt and get a home just from the benefits with my new job.

Even when job searching I noticed the feeling that bnym was robbing me when comparing that everyone else in tech including banking tech was paying 50%+ more.

Currently, the grass is much greener I would say if you have been at bnym for years.

Turtles have 4 legs but sometimes they might only have 2 if you chop off 2. Of course you should think before making a move, but if you hate BNY and are considering quitting, just do it. If you go somewhere else and it su-ks, do it again. If you leave and it’s better, that’s great. Staying somewhere where you’re unhappy cause of the fear your next move might not be better is the worst advice possible. Being your own prisoner of sadness will turn you into a shell.
