Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

PTO today

So I decided last minute to take PTO today. I’m in SJ and just can’t focus. The feelings are similar to knowing you have a funeral to go to next week and you feel helpless. This has been so stressful and honestly I’m not sure if I can handle it. PTSD

Haven't sent a single email since the LR was announced over a month ago. All my PTO days are banked and will be paid out of I get LR'ed. If I survive this LR, I will wait another 2 weeks before starting to "work". The next LR is about 2 months away anyways, so what's the rush. Scam the scammer and quite quitting is the way, only way.

Essentially doing the same. Fortunately my manager is extremely empathetic and encouraged me to do whatever I need to do. Our whole team is just holding their breath until Monday, I had a project kick off today and everyone is just waiting to see if they’re around to actually work on it.

Hope you all are doing okay. This is rough.

After everyone’s gone from this LR, ELT will be working hard for the next one in February. Remember their job is to cut costs so more heads to chop.

If you survive this round take this as a lesson and prioritize job search above all so you don’t have to go through this s—-t again.

layoff every 6 months is a long time tradition of bay area tech companies, not just Cisco, Amazon, Microsoft, even Google all do this now...

Cisco being my first big-tech company, I've learned to realize that bigger is not always better. There are phenomenal medium sized companies (albeit not as known as Google, Amazon, etc) that are growing, have much less layoffs, and have fantastic work cultures (or sometimes better).
If working for bigger names mean more to you, then have fun in this hunger game nonsense. I wish you the best!

This is not healthy - And this isn't ciscos last round of layoffs. If this is impacting anyone this bad, it is highly recommended to look for a new job. Yes, even in this market ..

Keeping workers stressed out, overworked, and under rested is a key strategy to being able to underpay them.

The leaders at Cisco are narcissistic masochistic losers inflicting grief on the entire company aside from the ones who know they are safe for one reason or another. Ive worked places where theres rumors of a layoff then it happens one day but never anywhere that has done this d-mb sh-t. Seems like intentional demoralization and keeping the remaining in fear and in line to me. Its Sure to repeat as well in Q1. Find a new employer or stay as one of the turkeys obediently waiting knowing the next Thanksgiving is on the way.

I don't understand why PTO.
You should be allowed to take an X days of medical leave per year without a paper from your doctor. Not more than two consecutive days.
PTO days balance will be paid back to you at the end of your contract with Cisco.

I am so sorry that you are experiencing this, I do understand this. I have worked in middle management for several companies and I have never resigned, I have ALWAYS been a product of a RIF (Reduction in Force). 5 companies.... 5 RIFs. The PTSD is in fact real. I worry about it on day one of any new job, let alone now at Cisco when they have made a world-wide announcement that it's happening in the coming weeks. Please take care of yourself and know that from my personal experience, even though it seems horrible at the time, I can tell you that after EVERY RIF, I was able to find and land a better opportunity.....albeit all eventually ending in a lay off. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors, whether that's in your current role here, or in finding another opportunity. :)
