Lowell suppose to be a “satellite” location. Some sort of place with limited investment. The satellite definition is given to any of lab that is not strategic, but happens to be the one some big head VP attends. If no big mouth is in your location then your lab is in the exit list.

@2rnz

Nothing but a lot of expensive executive leeches and parasites in Lowell, MA.

Big talkers are not big doers as everyone will tell ya.

@1yfj

if that is true, we sure don't need the bloated IBM Indian bureaucracy and the H1B via scams in the USA.

Good riddance, we don't need the Chinese for sure.

@yrw

Can you please define and explain efficiency @IBM ? Inquiring minds want to know how it works there. .

I am surprised that there was not mention of RTP.

I would speculate that the three remaining labs will be combined for efficiency

RST = legacy has already moved to India, and the rest will find its way to Austin.
Tucson = will be sold or partnered off with low end storage (storage = commodity)
RTP = will most likely consolidate around Redhat

Toronto in; Ottawa out. (Toronto isn't really Toronto; it's Markham. But whatever.) They closed Fredericton not long ago. If you are anywhere in Canada other than Markham (and that includes downtown Toronto) your days are probably numbered.

He specifically pointed out that IBM’s current
global strategic hubs include Austin and San
Jose in the United States,

Rochester, RTP, and Tucson not mentioned. Interesting. . .
