I was part of the February 2024 layoff (last day with Cisco was April 15th). My 1st reaction was a mix of frustration, anger and lack of trust and loyalty. I gave myself 48 hours to feel whatever I wanted to feel then committed to a disciplined strategy for finding my next role which began by identifying a short list of companies I wanted to join. I tirelessly researched companies from growth potential in their industry, company culture (#1 criteria for me) and the available posted jobs.
I recently joined a growing company (Revenue over $1b and below $10b) and am extremely happy. Sounds cliche - for me being laid off from Cisco after over a dozen years was the catalyst to my career happiness. My tenure at the new company is short (less than a quarter) and the culture is so much healthier and collaborative (not cutthroat). I lead a high performing team and have support from my senior leadership.
All this to say - if I were still unemployed my perspective may be different. Sharing my story in hopes of some who will be impacted see there is life after Cisco. I wish you all happiness and success.
My recommendation: spend quality time with your family and friends while you look for your next opportunity and openly share with them how you are feeling. I won’t say good luck - I will say do well.
I’ve read several posts recently as I empathize with you - an impending layoff looming over your head is very stressful there is no denying that fact. IF any senior leaders at Cisco read this forum please consider investing in your people instead of overpaying for acquisitions.
