The former employees pays Cisco for Cobra.

The severence package includes money for four months cobra but it is essentially just more severence money that can be used for anything.

"You can and should pay for Cobra with your HSA account funds if you have an HSA.

For U.S., HSA funds generally may not be used to pay premiums."

COBRA is not generally a health insurance. It is a special case that is allowed.

"HSA funds can be used for qualified medical expenses: COBRA premiums are considered a qualified medical expense, so HSA funds can be used to pay for them. "

Cisco gives you 4 months of pay to cover the expenses of your Cobra for your current health plan ( grossed up for taxes )

you have to pay cobra by yourself within your severance package, this is the policy for any company include Cisco.

Cisco does not directly pay for Cobra. Cisco gives you money to cover Cobra, but you can spend that money on anything (including Cobra).

This is all covered in the FAQ you’d have access to if you were impacted.

They give you a few extra dollars to cover COBRA as part of your package. That was true for me in 2020.
