Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Dear friends - always be ready, always!!!

We are in business with corporations and they are here to make $$$ and providing jobs and making employees happy is not on the list.

The relationship is "at will", they can nuke you at any given point in time. You can leave on you own if you'd like. The sooner you accept this fact the better off you'll be.

Always think about your family, try to build a large emergency fund and think in terms of being able to apply somewhere else immediately.

An old book from the 1990s emphasized that successful people acknowledge they can't control everything and don't waste time worrying or trying to change things beyond their influence...they simply accept them as they are.

As an regular employee in the tech industry, you have limited control (almost no control). Recognize this and be ready for potential challenges.

The only control you have is over your career - keep relevant skills, network, don’t get complacent.
Life throws all kind of curveballs. Best to expect this and learn to hit your own home runs.

HR in Cisco do not care, in fact when they target someone they really go for them. The kicker is when asked to provide any evidence to support, allegations made, and actions taken they say there is no data. Later you find the exec sponsoring the abuse has a past record of such behaviour at a previous company, a post by a dying man on linked in naming the exec.. That company kicked that exec out. So no, Cisco HR do not care in fact they regard the actions as normal and professional and indeed contribute. I wish I could share the evidence on this forum and post the pictures of the emails that show discrimination and abuse.

@ywr did you say your ideas were implemented? You should certainly get a CR for that.

I believe the challenge ELT faces is that they genuinely want to care about their employees - the "people-first" approach and all that - but at the same time, they have to carry out layoffs.

This feels insincere and hypocritical to employees.

Maybe HR can gradually work on making this process more transparent. I’m aware that someone in leadership reads these comments, as I’ve noticed some specific ideas I’ve shared here being implemented.
