Thread regarding Ford layoffs

India teams are entitled for no reason

Mass hiring, lack of being able to speak properly and taking vacations every other week.

No idea why the US has to only have meetings from 7 am est to 10 am est. Good luck getting anything done.

@4pbn+1vCuPU7t Well, some are cultural problems, like the hires from India. They always say yes, even if they don't understand what you are saying, because of culture norms.

However, not delivering anything and BSing all around, is not a cultural issue, but a character flaw, and one that other cultures, like ours, also have.

I was brought to "finish" a project once, because the lady in charge of executing the project was let go (her contract was cut short). A nasty gossipping person, that never thanked our help, but claim the glory whenever she could. Well, when I took over the project, I realized nothing was done, not a single thing.

The PM refused to believe me at first. According to the Project Manager, she sent weekly updates, and the project was near completion, maybe a few hours of work left. Faced with the reality that the project was in the same state than 3 months before, the PM raised a ruckus. My manager called her to her cellphone, while I was in the room, and she still tried to BS her way out.

This lady was white, born and raised here, IDK how many generations since her ancestors left Europe. So not a cultural problem, but a bent and shady character. So I ended doing her job, plus all mine, with a lot of pressure from management to deliver her project since we were behind big time, and I didn't get too much OT for it. The PM gave me some OT, to "reward" my effort, but limited, since the project was already overbudget.

The problem is that there are many people like her still in the company, starting with our "dear leadership" and our "beloved" CEO, that promises things will get better (they don't) and then goes away to race or drive Chinese BEVs. SMH.

Not to mention the nepotism displayed by Indian managers. Hiring majority Indian staff. Giving preference to fellow Indians. That cr-p needs to stop.

And the bullying by these managers. The amount of times I’ve heard Indian managers at Ford berate their direct reports incessantly but lie to leaders about actually what’s going on. It’s definitely pouring gas on the sh---y culture and feeding right into LL3+’s hopes and dreams.

Not to mention the cultural problems of workplace etiquette brought by these folks from LCC. They’ll say yes to everything but not deliver and only shrug when the entire project is completely late and on fire. Every. Single. Project. Led. By. Teams. In. India. Period. Dot. Underline all of it.

"Why in the first place things got outsourced if people here are so productive?"

US is ranked 6th in the world by workforce productivity, while India is ranked 64th. So why send jobs to India?

Well, the average annual income in US is $80,300, while in India is $2,540. A better measure should be median income (to remove abnormalities introduced by millionaires and large unemployed population). The US median income per day is $65.04 (4th highest in the world), while India is $3.89 (124th in the world).

In other words, is cheaper to pay 3 - 4 workers in India than your salary. Particularly when hiring inexperienced workers in India.

What about work quality or commitment? Not the best in India, but you realize we are in the Ford Company (King o fRecalls) layoffs site, right? FMC cares more about a saved penny than quality, so managers can get their bonuses.

"Why in the first place things got outsourced if people here are so productive?"

Because profits, and you are cheaper to hire (Asia-Pacific) or your residental stagus depends on your employment...which basically enslaved you - congrats. Plus management is willing to risk a certain amount of lacking expertise in exchange. Calculated management call.

Greedy management wants to save a few dollars by sending super simple, super low risk tasks to copy cats locations. If they messed up, it’s no big deal. So crazy some of them think they are special

"Because they WORK!!"
No.
All that happens is the salaries and benefits are cheapened
for an immediate bump in share price.
The consequence is that the company gets hollowed out.
Jeez, if these folks were so talented and they were operating in a low cost geo,
they would create their own company and make much much more.

Because they WORK!! Get work done and don't complain and procrastinate unlike other folks. Engineering is the focus not language for them! They do what matters

This is a problem you can directly attribute to upper management.

I hate to say this, but truth is I have resorted to bringing my own “local” Indian to meetings with overseas Indians so that they can translate. Modern problems require modern solutions.
