Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

They are making a list and not checking facts. Beware!!!

I just had a nice talk with the person over me. It seems everything I have said to others in private was told to the supervisor. I asked the higher up to help with a problem with one of the people I was in charge of. I asked them to remind this employee to wear their eye protection. Later at performance ranking I was dropped because I asked for help with the employee. Don't trust anyone because they all want to make you look bad. Things I said were twisted and exaggerated. I don't say anything anymore at work or during meetings because everything is used against you. I doesn't even need to be true just rumors or perceptions can destroy you. I always wondered why the workers are not friendly or talkative to each other and now I know why.

Yes KO feed back cannot help you but it can hurt you. I had excellent feedback from everyone one year, saved lots of money for the company and my reward was a good ranking. It was predetermined and the supervisor said others did more than I did for the year. Others did not do much that year in fact they barely did any meaningful, work at all. One year though one of the an-l engineers trashed me and it was used to drop me that year to NI. You cannot win you can only try to survive. I don't care anymore about the ranking because I am 3 years away from retirement so I am safe NRE. I expect to be pushed out in 4 to 5 years which is fine for me. I see employees trying so hard to stay after they are 60 not me. It is just not worth it for me or anyone to deal with the insanity. One person who was ranked higher than me played on their phone all day and watched movies. I was told they did not expect more out of this person because their CL was lower than mine. Lowered expectations for some and no fairness in the ranking.

No one actually reads KO feedback. The VP of each global business unit gets together with his direct reports for a pre-meeting to decide rankings verbally. After the pre-meeting, the managers/directors get together to officially rank everyone in the GBU. Guess what, the premeeting results are 95% identical to the official meeting ranking.

No written notes are documented in the premeeting for obvious reasons.

For what it's worth, dont bank on KO feedback to protect you. I dropped after having a year with all positive KO. The boss was basically taking care of his boys.

Poisoning the Well, Wack a Mole, and many other gaslighting tactics are the norm in today's ExxonMobil Business Units.

Trust but verify everything and document all decisions and ideas by email to everyone in your group before sharing with anyone else including your colleague.

I was in the similar situation. My supervisor and others started spreading false rumors about me. Apparently, a few people got jealous or felt slighted. It wasn’t anything I had control over. They didn’t do any fact check or even ask. Dropped me in the next ranking.
