Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Strategy is not working

No matter what we do, the street doesn’t care. If cost-cutting and org restructuring is the only tool in the toolbox, the company is heading toward a dead end.

Chevron (NYSE:CVX) shares are little changed post-market Thursday after the company said it forecasts a FY 2025 organic capital budget of $14.5B-$15.5B and expects to take $1.1B-$1.5B in charges during Q4 for restructuring, asset impairments and other obligations.

We're four year out from our last company-wide re-org and we're doing it again. I am not sure who is supposed to be impressed by a new round of musical chairs, but it isn't shareholders. Given that ENGINE still needs to hire the vast majority of its 600 person target, the survivors of this round of layoffs will likely only get the privilege of doing it again and again until the target is met, stabilized, and becomes fully competent - if that ever happens.

Being this company for over a decades - biggest difference I see from outside is there is no Shareholder mindset with leaders - Many focus on the PMP game to "level up" and check that checklist to get their 2+ or 1 rank

Big part here is "building relationships" - people (esp managers) are so careful in upsetting someone even with dead weight folks - and you can see people being assigned roles that they are not close to being qualified for as a "learning opportunity"

Most companies outside has a Performance Review process really focused on results/delivery and shareholder value

Strategy starts at the top. Our executives should be in these selection events or be held accountable. Why do employees always have to take the brunt?

Who wants to invest in a company with irresponsible employees whos biggest concern is whether or not they will be able to continue working from home where they can do virtually nothing and still collect a paycheck. The writing is on the wall. The party is over. Pack your bags.

There is no strategy. We have slogans. We follow the leader or we invest in Low incremental capital projects in the Permian. What a massive waste. The BOD that endorsed this guy a decade ago should be sent a bill for ineptitude. The BUs and opportunities this guy has squandered - wow.
