Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I have yet to see anyone who actually deserves it to be promoted

How come that 90% of the time only weasels climb up? No wonder we got where we are.

“ You may not like it, but that is how to get ahead and your first priority is to take care of yourself even if it means stepping over bodies...”

Spoken like a true member of the Ford Friends and Family management promotion plan.

I haven't seen any recent promotions but I have seen managers get switched between departments. It's almost like they're being crossed trained; like they're being groomed before any layoffs.

Its been happening for years and continues as LL5, LL6, supervisors promote the same type of useless social butterflies one after another.
Mediocrity will continue.

Ok, maybe 90% is way too high. But 50%?? Are you joking? Have you seen our management ranks at all?

I'm going with 89.9%

Because those weasels are smart enough to know and give the management what they want. They don't whine and complain, they just do what they are asked or step up to do. You may not like it, but that is how to get ahead and your first priority is to take care of yourself even if it means stepping over bodies...

Ford is full of bad managers but there are good ones too. Many are promoted by who they know and not based on ability. I’ve also seen many managers who are more concerned with their own next step vs developing their people. All that said, the OPs 90% stat just comes off as bitter, resentful and ill informed. I highly doubt it’s anywhere close to that number. I’d be more apt agree with 50%.

Yep, weak managers promote weak supervisors who promote new weak performers.

The endless circle of mediocrity

Ford has always had evil people in the management ranks. That goes all the way back to Henry himself. It seems like things have gotten worse recently but I saw plenty of bad management in my decades at Ford.

MBA fail-ups cover for each other. They do nothing and take all the credit, which would probably be fine if they didn’t also demand high salaries. Small companies can’t afford such nonsense, but in large companies like Ford there are many places to hide. The company will continue this way until someone high up feels enough pain to question it.
