Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

United Way

So how is this not intimidation? I know this is an old story but in this day and age this is a bit much.

We were divided into teams, and then each team was measured by % of the team that contributed $$. It was presented as a friendly competition to earn offsite lunch if you hit a certain % of team giving to UW. I thought UW donations were supposed to be anonymous. About as anonymous as survey responses, I guess.

The irony/hypocrisy is that they are asking for donations to help the community as they layoff their own employees. Charity starts at home.

Stopped supporting UW many years ago.

Fill out your pledge card on the first day and select $0.00…no one will hassle you.

No one can force you to give.
It's too bad the company still spends do much time promoting this organization. Have you seen how much the big shots make at YW?
What a joke.
Id rather give to an animal shelter than UW.

I worked as a contractor for a while, and I was not allowed to attend most employee get-togethers or their occasional fun celebrations. However, during the United Way Campaign, they were as relentless in seeking a donation from me as they were the employees. I don't mind donating to charities, but I didn't like the coercion.

Haha. In the old days, the amount you donated to UW had an impact on your ranking. Some of that is still there. It's one of the many things you have to do to be part of the cult!

Totally agree, I have been harassed continually! It’s nobody’s business if I choose to donate or not!
