Appearances matter.
If you are seen, and not just heard, it does leave an impression. You no longer become just a name but now have that personal connection. For some managers, it makes getting rid of folks a bit more difficult.

Not recent ones. Those guys won’t touch us with ten foot pole these days. They are not hiring us any longer
