Seems like signing it makes you an ideal target to be laid off. They can quantify the cost to fire you for whatever reason.
Sign it or forfeit all rights? That doesn’t make sense. It feels like signing it is forfeiting all rights. Taking your rights in a court of law away and placing them in the hands of the employer directly instead. Also seems like a great way to cover up any bad acts or actors, such as those who ignore policy and work their staff to death, literally….
You won'r be given an option. The only option is to sign or forfeit all rights.

So here is my question why are they giving us the option to sign it if it automatically goes into effect within 30 days? Why give us the option to sign why not just send the email notifying us?

As in my post on a separate question on this board, Management far more worried about getting expenses down and in line.
Arbitration is a far cheaper -- and MUCH lower profile way -- to deal with those who believe they were treated (or fired) unfairly.
Quietly write a small settlement check, mandate the recipient sign a NDA and avoid having to pay a PR firm ( or god forbid, more lawyers) to deal with it. Win win - cha ching!
It has nothing to do with layoffs but about workplace misconduct events and privacy issues. They are joining other companies in forcing arbitration rather than public law suits. Article:

This is freaking me out considering the way the election went. Why are they sending this out? What are they coming over there? It’s making me feel uneasy and I don’t know what to think
I would think that would be more about someone who is fired for some reason not laid off and who then objects on some grounds and then is required to bring it to arbitration rather than sue. Or to prevent a class action lawsuit by current or former employees about something. It also keeps things private and prevent publicity.
