College Degree Informal Survey

With all the talk about employers dropping the requirement for employees to have a college degree, I am wondering about the reality.

In your group, what % of employees have a college degree and what % of managers don’t have a college degree? What type of work (software, cloud, mainframe … ) is your group.

I’m sorry but outside a few exceptions if one doesn’t have a college degree then I question their intellectual capacity and resilience in achieving a goal. I get college is expensive but if one has the intellectual horsepower proven by grades and test scores one can find a lot of universities that provide a lot of merit aid

My experience with the Indians on our team is that many seem to have a bachelor’s degree from India and a Masters from a US university. So if they paid out of state tuition, which will be the case, their education will be the same cost as an a local.

But paying $400000 for a degree is nuts- even if you can afford it.

It costs today nearly $400k to get a college degree in America from a private university; then companies like IBM replace new graduates by Indi.ans: pretty cool system!!

College degrees in STEM mean something. Other degrees come with a massive dose of attitude. 2 year technical degrees (associate) have value. Some people just want to learn a subject and not the other stuff that brings no value.

In all my years of working here, I have only met one programmer without a college degree.
Managers without degrees may exist, I haven’t met any.
