Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

layoffs as the new normal...

this is so mentally draining to keep seeing layoffs in the news, and then reading that the company is still making tons of money or having its best year ever. what can we even do to stop this corporate nonsense? i’m tired, but i’m also super angry and upset. this is a huge problem that needs fixing. people shouldn't just accept layoffs as the new normal.

One bullet.
Legitimately prove you can maintain a plant reliably with their designs. That would eliminate the offshoring if a good engineer reviewed the designs.

Honest results would prohibit this exercise of futility 31

I do not know, but sometimes when I heard people saying that layoff is normal and NSI or PIP normal as well. I sound like a lo of piece of cr-p are defending or excusing something that is not normal when the companies are doing tons of money.

XOM does not need to layoff. It simply needs to freeze pay and people will look for higher paying jobs.

Who do you have in mind that will make these well informed decisions on behalf of all industries? Career bureaucrats and academia running centralized planning? History is proof that makes things worse.

It’s not just XOM. Layoffs are the norm now. There is no trust or loyalty with any company.

Layoffs of Americans at American companies for the reason of moving those jobs overseas to support American Refineries and Chemical Plants should be illegal.

Laying off an American then importing an Indian to work in the Refinery should also be illegal.

Anything to keep shareholders happy, the how doesn’t really matter. I believe this is top management’s perspective. They’ll be retiring within 5 years, let someone else deal with the aftermath

  1. Implement regulations for large companies (e.g., 500+ employees) considering substantial layoffs.
  2. Require proof of financial necessity before large layoffs, especially if the company is not in crisis.
  3. Mandate reduction of executive overhead first, including termination of non-essential executive roles.
  4. Enforce cancellation of bonuses, luxury leases, and dividends for executive management before layoffs.
  5. Prioritize workforce retention over executive privileges in financially stable companies.
