Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Sabbatical then retirement?

Just learned I will be eligible for sabbatical in the same year I am planning to retire, any one know how that works? Any strings attached by taking sabbatical to have to stay longer?

(40 years, so I'd really want to take it before I go since I will passed my anniversary date and earned it)

Can you give your manager notice while you are on the sabbatical and just not come back? They will have learned to do without me by then anyway.

The sabbatical thing seems like such a joke offer. Work 10 years and then get 3 weeks off .

FYI- you don't have to give a 60 dat notice for retirement, but it is good to have the checklist of things & they are really good about it.

not an issue. you take sabbatical the year you hit 40 not your hire date. So Jan 1 of that year you can take it regardless of hire date. The bank wants a 60 day notice for retirement. But you get nothing worth adhering to that requirement.

so take that sabbatical, enjoy it (I did). They dont turn off general network access (mail, skype).

just give proper exit notice and when you return, do the retirement walk.

one associate took sabbatical, followed by all their vacation (used as the notice window) and never returned.

You will probably will have to be an active employee once you return from sabatical for 30 days before you can retire. The retirement process takes 30 days.

I've had a couple teammates already who took sabbatical the year they planned to retire, and retired shortly after their return. They had already shared their planned retirement date with the leadership team prior to the sabbatical being approved, and there was no issue with it.

If you are eligible, you should take it - you have earned it.
