Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

With the technology of cloud services are our technicians needed anymore?

Or can the company contract most of that work out? I could see keeping construction groups until the fiber build out is complete but in all honesty today do we really need to pay technicians $40+ an hour to be hands and eyes in the field? Contractors could do it for half that without benefits. All of the technical work I.e. engineering, planning,,database, programming is done by management anyway so it seems the company could be a lot more profitable and productive without them and associated cost such as labor, tools (well only a few hand tools needed anymore) vehicles, benefits etc. what are some thoughts on this?

There is nothing at all the cloud can do to increase the revenue of this company. doesn't mater what is done or how much is spent. The telco is ending and nobody can do anthing about it. The decline of sales for phones and nobody is buying more plans. Only result will be as people lose money, they will cut lines. We will reduce the family lines. Yeah! we are not having kids and will be cutting lines. Yeahhhh!

No contractors needed. When the cloud gets within a certain range above the customers location a data dump will drop down all of the services the customer needs. Pretty simple. cut and dry.

I think this original post was made by someone who could VERY easily be replaced by a contractor.
ALL of those non-supervisory management personnel can quickly be replaced by someone reading a flowchart.

Maybe you should ask to do ride along with the various craft work groups because you are clearly out of touch. Cloud service... lol

Anything not done in a Data Center/CO or in the field facing a customer can be done in India. Those folks over there are pretty good at pounding on a keyboard while looking at a flow chart…for about 80% less
