Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

I'm not sure what's worse

Unprofessional higher-ups or rude coworkers. It's like there are two rules when promoting and hiring. For the first, you have to be incompetent but a yes-man/yes-woman. For the second, you have to be an a--hole to fit in with the toxic atmosphere. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

It’s not true. I’m a toxic a--hole and I haven’t been promoted in years.

"Old farts"...well then. Ever heard the phrase "Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill every time. "

Might want to remember it.

@1djb+1vvRwBXP - true, but pls don't throw all of us "old farts" in the same basket. Many of us have invested our entire career here and truly, truly care.

The issue is that many of us so-called "old farts" -- who carry the institutional knowledge for how to get things actually done around here (including the experience of "yea, we already did that before. Didn't work") -- are simply bullied down by the Fleet Boston Mafia, who THRIVE on the backs of their Favorites.

Case in point: One of many, many unfortunate examples -- as @1ugk+1vvRwBXP astutely observes -- President of PB. Grossly underqualifed, resume as thin as toilet tissue, fakes (or maybe she has been faking it for so many years that she believes her own Fakery.

I actually like BTM, but his blindspot is his coterie of (mostly Fleet alum) DRs. They are a cluster of truly sick f*cks. Pretending to like each other (kiss, kiss on both cheeks -- top and bottom -- just waiting to cannibalize their peers to secure the next slot on the rung.

Our "culture" has become sick, sick, sick. May I be so bold as to say Stage 4 at this point?

It's sad. Very sad. But us "old farts" have been neutered, cauterized, castrated, whatever you want to call it, to effect any real change.

I believe the youngsters have it right. F* loyalty, Hop around to as many firms as possible to get more pay, better standard of living for your family and give the bare minimum -- here or anywhere else.

Just make sure no on has a bad thing to say about you, so new employers will take you on.

Look out for YOU. And only you.

Breaks my heart to say it, but unless you actually enjoy bootlicking and a$$kissing, this is no longer the place to sacrifice your life. (why else would they need to send us daily messages about programs they are launching for our "Mental Wellbeing"? (how f-ed is that?!?!)

It's a job.

For your sanity and mental wellness, take the paycheck and focus on the rest of your life.

My experience is, less competent you are, more you blame everyone. Yes, it is hard to get something useful in a meeting while 80% incompetency - talk the high talk with no substance to it. Any attempt to steer the conversation in the right direction is pointless. You just get labeled “rude”. How about people in technology actually get some general knowledge of technology?! I am addressing you, business requirements people, product owners, tech managers, project managers, scrum masters, and so on “techies” riding the gravy train without having what it takes to do it. Money and titles - the rest don’t interest you.

It is a valid point, though, that there are too many higher up leaders who should have retired years ago and are instead just hanging on for a paycheck. They could care less if the Bank, or the employees within, succeed and are happy to surround themselves with their friends and cronies at the expense of top talent progression.

Wow! Old farts? Hahaha

The culture depends on the division you work in. You don't like it then be the change. OR, quit!

It's not just the old farts. (who believe me, would enthusiastically embrace a layoff)

Plenty of young a-holes too. (They are the future!)

OP @OP+1vvRwBXP is right.

The culture is f-up'ed and HR just sits by the like the lap dogs they're paid to be.

It's all sick.
