Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Relocate to India

I’m planning to relocate to India, preferably Chennai. Which BU would be the best fit for me? I’ve heard that Wealth/PI is a good option and relatively easy to navigate, given the leadership there. I’ve also heard good things about Asset Management being a great place to work. Any recommendations? For context, I have 15+ years of experience in Java and microservices.

Strong Warning About Fidelity in India
Based on experiences from former employees, Fidelity’s workplace culture in India has been described as highly toxic. Current and former employees detail that leadership fosters an environment where competent employees are pushed out, allegedly to protect inadequacies within the leadership team. This culture is reportedly supported by HR, with allegations of dishonesty and targeted setups against those who dissent.

The lack of oversight from the US management seems to exacerbate the situation, as there appears to be minimal accountability.

For anyone considering a position at Fidelity in India, it’s advisable to thoroughly research the experiences of former leaders and employees before making a decision.

Avoid joining the Wealth . It's overcrowded with managers who lack both technical expertise and effective leadership skills. Their strengths seem to lie in flattery, organizing pointless events, and wasting time in the least productive ways. The leadership in Wealth is among the most incompetent you'll find.

A guy from tech got into a prominent role few years back and then he brought all his crew (non of them has leadership skills) , this has created a negative environment. It may not pinch you but be aware that leadership is non-existent here and their main job is organizing events, partner visits and boot licking. The main guy here is being posted to write stories on linkedin.

AM Tech does have some people in management positions that are not qualified for the roles.
Also, like other tech business groups, pay doesn’t keep up with the industry once you accept the position, so get as much as you can initially.

I'd find another job outside of Fidelity. Plenty of companies that pay better

I have worked at both PI and AMTECH. In my experience, AMTECH stands out as a much better organization compared to PI. While PI often felt like doing minimal work and staying occupied with unproductive tasks, AMTECH aligns closely with the goals of business and fidelity, offering a more meaningful and impactful work environment.
