Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

CSA-CUSA Merger will do nothing to increase business and internal efficiency.

Let’s be real, customers are not going to buy/lease more equipment and increase PV just because of the almighty holy “One Canon” philosophy.

The executives at Canon do not understand the industry and the macro & micro market dynamics.

Put down the Harvard Business Review journal and MBA textbooks. Everybody is tired of your buzzwords such as: synergy, recalibration, sustainability, dynamic, etc. People want to know how changes impact them. Stop creating these new business units with recycled, lame acronyms.

People, put what you think on this post on pause for just a second. Not that what you all say is not correct, but think of this for one moment. Canon has been the industry hold out on re-structuring of a company that traverse both B2B and B2C product lines. Kodak was the first that had 2 divisions, one for print and one for cameras and personal printers. They restructured years ago and only came out with inkjet production products. Ki-ling all the B2C products and the B2B toner products and realigning sales. Konica Minolta followed suit with a restructuring of its business unites shuffling B2C and B2B toner print products. Interestingly take the same model on as Kodak and its distribution channels. Ricoh also just recently restructuring its distribution, mirroring that of Konica. If you recall HP, years ago followed suit after Kodaks bankruptcy and also reorganized their production print organization the same distribution as well. The latest player in production print to reorganize was Xerox and they as well follow in the same footsteps as all the others. So lets not cloud the story here between CSA and CUSA. Canon is late to the game in restructuring the OCE, Japan HQ and CUSA organizations into one unit business focused organization and realizing the trajectory of the B2C product lines. While I realize there is great angst from the CUSA team in NY that was let go and that there is most likely a misstep on managements role to strengthen the camera product line and positioning, but in my opinion that doesn't hold a candle to the major misstep that has taken place on the production inkjet print side of the house. Just as Kodak and HP did in the past, Canon was giving away production inkjet equipment at low margin assuming it would have a wind fall of consumables in ink and clicks. The reality was the same that HP and Kodak ran into and that was when you flood the market with very high duty cycle presses and the customers, and the industry do not have the volume to put on these presses, the volume will ultimately come from stealing work competitively between print service providers driving down the price of ink. Canon has no choice but to put the organizations of CUSA and CSA together or they will continue to not reach the pre-pandemic revenue of 2019 that Japan expects. Sales and service will ultimately model that of Konica, the current Canon restructuring is showing that same path. Please think about this as you all post.

You are forgetting the only thing the company ki-ling CEO knows how to say “work hard, work together”. No plan. No strategy. No idea how to actually generate new revenue in new business sectors. Just “work hard. Work together”. Yes that will solve all of this sinking ships problem!! It’s laughable at this point how nobody that works here cares about this company.

From the outside looking in, I feel the impact would be greater on the former CSA field teams. Print OEMs are realizing in a shrinking market its too expensive to maintain a large field sales/support team, so they'll rely more on dealers for distribution.

I agree. Management has not, cannot, and will not elaborate or articulate detailed objectives, strategies, tactics, and plans because they really don’t have any answers. The best they can do is reshuffle departments and reporting structures to give the appearance that they are doing something significant, but in reality it’s Kabuki Theatre.
