Thread regarding Mutual of America Life layoffs

Why oh why

Most everyone in here sounds so bitter. If you don’t know this, most all other companies do layoffs from time to time and do things that move the business forward. This isn’t new in the world…

No one ever forced you to stay but yet you did. To name call and bash people is child’s play and I would think that’s beneath you, since you are so called adults. No I’m not in leadership or apart of nepotism. We all have the right to work someplace we feel inclined to. You all act like you are owed a job when in fact you work for a paycheck just like everyone else (regardless on how much work you think a person does). You may leave when you want without the companies approval and the company may do company things, without your approval. I understand your misplaced anger and bitter feelings but we all must move forward. One person wrote in the comments it was a blessing to be let go. Why is it so important for you to anonymously write your thuggish, hood, hate rhetoric and sow descension? I know why, you miss old times and wish you had them again. You can make a new way at a new company who you feel is right for you! Try your hardest not to live in the past but live for the future and your families or for anything that brings you joy. All this toxicity will lead to heart attacks, strokes, blood clots, aneurysms, high blood pressure, or much more. Try to move forward and not stay stuck. You are your biggest commodity! Represent yourself well.

Wow I just noticed that the original post was written on Christmas eve. A company executive trolling the employees they just laid off on xmas eve... What a sad way to live your life. Whoever you are, you have a lot of soul searching to do.

The original post reads as if it was written by a middle schooler. Just think, the author of that post is probably one of the highest paid people at Mutual of America! No wonder the company is losing hundreds of millions of dollars and being forced to conduct mass layoffs.

When is the next credit rating downgrade coming? Heck of a job, guys...

Wow! This post could have been written by Festog or Greed themselves. We're bitter because, yes layoffs are a part of the work world, but they didn't have to be at Mutual. This was caused by the greed (no pun intended), arrogance and unchecked egos of two people. Greed & Festog. Mr. Flynn and Tom Moran were far from perfect. Yes, there were issues with technology. But they understood the type of company Mutual was. They didn't try to get too big too quickly. They had a solid, niche market and the Company was prosperous year after year. We had a solid foundation with a focus on strong customer service. Their future strategic plans were conservative, with incremental growth. That wasn't enough for Greed. He wanted to grow the company bigger and faster and he lost sight of what made Mutual successful all these years. And then Greed brought Festog back for a second stint, against everyone's better judgement. Festog's poor leadership and lack of integrity, allowed to go unchecked, is what caused the demise of this Company. The ego and the incompetence of two people caused this to happen. And the Board should be held accountable as well for allowing this to happen. Bitter?! You bet we're bitter. Because it could have been avoided. And the two people most responsible, are allowed to parachute out of there with their multi-million retirement packages. If there is justice in this world, someday, somehow, both of them will pay a price for what they did.

@OP, given you're so happy with your job and not worried about layoffs, what made you land to these pages in a first place? I hope you didn't just come to preach, brag, and gloat, because that doesn’t sound very healthy. Maybe you should follow your own advice - channel that toxic lingo away from your coworkers, move forward and focus on improving your own life instead.

Gee this sounds suspicious.

Not in leadership or nepotism eh?

Didn't say you presently work at MOA.

You could be one of the past top people, trying to defend yourself. You sure do not write like a staff person.

You show exactly why the old timers are so angry.

Management 15-30 years ago had class and never would say the things you stated but listen to the emplyees who lived it for many many years how generous and understanding management was.

MOA was a great company to work for way back.

To the commentator who said "Why oh Why" discussing bitterness. Your comments are GASLIGHTING. There was supposed to be company growth. Bad decisions by company Execs getting paid millions CAUSED these job cuts. We want NYDFS to hold the Board and Executives Accountable and get these people out of there. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night now.
