Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Drop-in desks with personal belongings

I'm one of the su-kers who moved to a "HUB" to keep my job. I was told that the entire floor is all first come first serve drop-in desks, but clearly people are calling dibs and leaving personal belongings at these desks. Some even have name tags. Why can't we do anything right around here? Either they are drop ins or they're assigned. Someone should go around nightly with a garbage can and ensure these desks are empty for the next day.

" Neighborhoods were mapped out by organization at my site. The problem is no one is following the map they sent out to us originally."

There are no "neighborhoods".

There are no assigned seats.

Just because some dimwit in your org sent something declaring so, does not make it so.

“ Neighborhoods were mapped out by organization at my site. “

Because you and your L2 AD decided you were going to block off seats, does not make it policy. It isn’t. There are no assigned seats.

“be informed you will not be welcomed in Atlanta.”

Listen here you little sn-t nosed entitled DEI hire. I don’t care if I’m welcome or not. When I was re-assigned to your ghetto location I was less thrilled than you are. But since I am here now, you can keep your comments to yourself and maybe read a manual or something to earn your keep. Can’t wait for all the RTO DEI fails. Jeremey worked so hard to bring the STEM jobs to Atlanta to hand to you on a silver platter. You won’t even be able to get your a$$ out of bed and to work on time. Talk to the hand sister.

I blame VP level and above for this toxic work environment. They have acknowledged on Town Halls that they KNOW there is bad lighting, not enough desks, crime, etc.

The fact that they would funnel everyone into offices where they know there is no space reeks of ill intent.

For instance, if you have 100 employees assigned to a building, you should have 100 workspaces at minimum. Then there would be no need for reservations, and there would be enough desks for everyone to claim a seat for themselves as their regular location. But that’s not how they’ve been doing this. So they know exactly what they’re doing. And all of the back-and-forth on these threads because of everyone being stressed out over this situation is all because of how they have structured this process very poorly. And it is obviously causing harm to their workforce.

“Someone complained on a town hall shortly after the police presence about how uneasy they were around police and the response was they were here to protect us.”

I’m more uneasy knowing there are coworkers who even think about some of the comments concerning RTO posted on this board, let alone putting these ideas in writing.

" Was this ever confirmed? Was anyone disciplined? "

My Boss is in Alpharetta and confirmed -- police were called and were subsequently hired by the company to be there going forward. Combatants were terminated as I understand it.

I work in Alpharetta. It is true. Result: permanent police presence Tuesday and Wed. outside building 300. Does company fix issue of overcrowding to point that there are employee altercations? NO. Company solution: make it a police state.

“AT&T can no longer afford dedicated desks and offices for employees.”

What T can no longer afford is a grossly overpaid C suite, a complicit BOD & four layers of “VP’s”!

Plain and simple you are going to be layed off.If you don't have a desk you are not needed. Start looking for another job because we don't want you in ATL.

" There are legit assigned seating for groups who do the same work together"

NO, THERE ARE NOT.

PER EVERY VP WHO HAS ADDRESSED THIS IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS.

THERE ARE NO ASSIGNED SEATS. IT COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MADE MORE CLEAR.

YOU AND YOUR GROUP ARE NOT SPEACIAL.

Listen. Don’t be the person who stashes your stuff if it is a shared desk. Also don’t be the person who causes an altercation. There are legit assigned seating for groups who do the same work together. Don’t start throwing stuff away.
Instead, do the professional thing. Find a seat. If you can’t, Document it and report it to your manager and VP in writing.

Lastly, don’t get advice from this site. Ask an employment lawyer in your state what they think.

If your personal stuff is on the desk I choose to sit in when I show up at 8 am, it's going in the garbage. Don't like it? You better hope your pencil is sharper than mine.

They are drop ins, everyone knows there is no assigned seating---so sit wherever you'd like... and make sure CRE is notified what is going on. Email the supervisor of the person/ people that are trying to claim space as their own , copying your supervisor and CRE.

CRE was proactive on this issue when it started happening in my location in the last couple months and it pretty much abated.

Some people do have assigned desks. I have one for a medical accommodation and I deal with finding my name tag and personal items in the trash each morning. It’s hard enough having to live with a disability, but add this cr-p in top of it makes it even worse.

Idk, just find another spot to sit. Might be some floor space by the wall still.

1/6 is going to be a disaster and it will be epic. Take videos, when the parking is full, park up and down the streets, in the grass and fire lanes. Take videos of people sitting on the floors, in the stair wells and any other place they can find. Let’s make sure the news stories fly and Fire Marshall’s get called. Rinse and repeat daily. Going to be funny when the buildings get shut down and the company fined big time for their stupid decisions.

Onions.
Natures own raw and natural onions. Eat em, share em, put them in trash cans all around the office. Sprinkle those diced little rubiks cubes everywhere. The fridge, the drawers, the elevator, the bathroom. I love the smell of onions in the morning, especially Monday morning.
