Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Smith Bits Union

Smith Bits does need a union. Most of the people that I've spoken with there said that they would definitely vote yes If given the chance to choose. When Smith was actually still Smith, this might have been questionable but, not anymore. The only thing holding people back is the threat of losing their jobs. It's going to take a strong and organized team effort. If any union reps are reading this, please help!

Indeed stop whining about. All, direct ALL your skills to get positions in which you will be able to successfully compete against them so that some day they will start whining. Post your success stories rather than complaints. They can care less about complaints. Your successes - this is what would trigger their attention and then they will start analyzing how the whole layoff process was orchestrated and who was targeted.

Yet, I'm sure you guys used to think unions were a terrible idea and chew and stomped at the evils of unions AND used to not give a tinkers cuss about the plight of other folks lower down the totem pole in retail and other trades. BUT KNOW that cost cutting is working it's way up the ladder and effective skilled trades people and engineers and chemists, whoa, stand back, now we need unions.

So what can a union do about geo-politics or the price of oil? Nothing. When Russia and Iran capitulates, then amazingly prices will go back up. And it should show you that your politicians are not in control and don't give a crap about you. A bunch of G-20 technograchs really pull the strings. And knowing that you whole life can be turned on a dime, why do you keep on that track? Why don't you start your own business and then you don't have to worry about layoffs, or at least build up something on the side that you enjoy doing. Simply your life, stay out of debt, and focus on your family. All this other crap can be at the bottom of the Alantic tomorrow. Haven't you learned that?

Kids come out of school and you ask them, "What are you going to do?"

"I'm gonna get a job ......"

Yeah, you are going to go work for someone else. There's the first mistake.

Unions. Yeah, end up like New Jersey and Massachusetts where 1 and every 3 people works for the government in some capacity. Your path to prosperity. Then you moan about high taxes.

Should have kept that old truck that was paid off.

Hello. I realize it is not 1997 anymore, but I am sure in true tyrant form they will threaten plant closure to keep a union out.

Hello. It isn't 1997 anymore. Schlumberger is a tyrant that has disgruntled the majority at Smith Bits.

They already tried to get union in (teamsters) back in I want to say around 97 and it was voted down pretty bad. I think the fear of job loss would prevent a union from becoming a reality.
