The layoffs I witnessed were conducted in a very undignified manner. Not proud to work COP right now.

COP is more concerned about the nice, friendly, happy guy than the serious, hard working and productive, ever so grumpy guy down the hall. Don't get me wrong, it's important to have cooperative relationships in the workplace, but I don't care if the guy or gal sitting next to me is friendly or not. We are there to get work done. People wear their feelings on their sleeves and keep production down because of it, but they are such nice people - rolling eyes....

Here you go COP. Cashing in 22 years of productivity, innovation and hard work. You will all be a bunch of happy, helpless, fumbling idiots.

I'm deeply sorry you were offended by my comments...not really. If insulting people or babbling away makes you feel better then more power to you. The fact of the matter is you are the clear example of the pedantic people we needed to get rid of (if you actually worked in CoP). Cash in your two cents and be the keyboard warrior if that will help you feel better. Once you're done, move on and go get a gosh darn job.

When prices were good does anyone remember hearing about a company complaining that their rising stars were jumping ship for greener pastures? Oh wait, no. Texas is an at-will employment state.

For those that are considering a frivolous EEOC case: no one owes you anything, nor do you owe them anything. Save your severance and take your family on vacation while you have the free time to do so. Those are the relationships that matter. That's where your loyalty OUGHT to lie.

That was one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. What's true - the job is a 'privledge'. However, COP is the ultimate in the new 'do as we say, not as we do' world. I've known quite a few 20+ yr employees and they still add a ton of value, are great mentors (a job they aren't paid for. BTW, that is something I will refuse to do going forward unless compensated fairly for) and overall productive people. The previous poster is obviously some kind of HR/Business consultant, maybe a 'fat-trimmer', as if that's even a real job.

However, the poster was right on a couple of things, it is work, not a relationship. COP would be well served to remember this when things inevitably turn around and we get the same HR 'poor house' BS about salary inflation, sign on bonuses and people going across the street for an extra $1000/month. COP ould also be well served to remember this past 3 months when management has the same old complaints when oil is $80/barrell again - 'nobody gives a s&&t', 'people don't appreciate anything' and all of the other HR-speakese that will be slung around.

For those thinking sahme on me for being loyal all those years, I hope you take this as a lesson, it is WORK. At the end of the day the company doesn't care about you, doesn't recognize talent, or loyalty, or really anything else. You are a number to them and you should treat the company as the same. Remember, ifsomebody would give us the money to go do whatever we wanted to very few of us would actually come into the office, work is ALL ABOUT MONEY and I sincerely hope I get through to those few who read this and that they will recgonize and conduct themselves accordingly. BTW, I am one of those who was let go, have found replacement work and,quite frankly, couldn't care less if the company went bankrupt tomorrow.

As for the company - worst I've ever worked for (and I've been at some sweat shops). Things I hated: politics, the 'do as we say, not as we do' attitude, weak/poor management (really, Ryan Lance should not be calling a Bingo game, let alone running a $80 Bn company), excessive red tape (somehow the company got less flexible when it became an E&P), the SPIRIT Values, which I guess didn't apply during lay offs. Not a place I'd recommend to anybody I know to go to work for. I feel like suing the company in an attempt to get my last 5 years back…..

Let's all get off our high horses and accept that work is work. What do I mean by that? You go in at 7-8 and leave at 5-6. In that time you're expected to do your work efficiently. For that work you get paid and that is it. If you want dignity or respect you may find that at home or at a support group but anywhere else is every man/woman for themselves and EVERYONE knows that. Every single company in the world will say that values, leadership and loyalty are critical aspects but we all know and fail to accept that it is about making money while diminishing our cost. Dollars and cents. If you are not good at that then you clearly know where you stand. Ask yourself if you could calculate your productivity day in and day out how much of your salary do you actually "earn". Too many people are taking their jobs for granted and feeling entitled just because they have years with a company. Wake up! It's not a relationship, it's work.

I agree with 88774!! Those faithful employees have been life long family members and believed and trusted Cop to send them off in a dignified manner. They were blindsided with embarrassement and shame and what did they get in return. A lesson for all of us to take note and prepare ourselves for the future. Don't talk to me about core values and how we need to believe in our leaders to be honest and responsible enough to prepare us, send us off well equipped for the next chapter in our lives. We were the core of what made this company what it WAS, your employees gave their lives to you and in return, received nothing but uninformed HR reps with no skills on how to properly do their job. The lack of education and training from HR was embarrassing to that department. This part of the process was made more painful for those faithful 20+ yrs of service employees. This is all about the might dollar and nothing about the value of service you gave. Shame on you Conoco! Families will be destroyed the regrets I have for giving you so many hours of my life and for what!!!!

Glassdoor reviews are the better resource. The current set of reviews at Glassdoor is heavy on the happy go lucky interns.

Dignity and respect do not exist here. Here is why: we laid off many people who spent 30 - 40 years with the company. We had them them escorted out without getting to say goodbye to coworkers or to get their personal belongings from their office. Dignity and respect is approaching those employees a month ago and working out early retirement agreements, which would have allowed them to at least be celebrated and honored by their coworkers during their last days.
