He has mandated using InfoSys for developer consulting here at FHEG to "save costs". The developers at InfoSys are completely incompetent (they lack basic understanding of general tools developers use). I'm afraid of the future if they stay on for much longer.

What is better about orpos?
Damn impressive - this thread has more than 55 responses and 2000 views. That is a quarter of Follett employee count.
Our store is running ORPOS and WinDSS. We love ORPOS and would take it over WinDSS anyday. There is always some pain with transformation, but that pain sets the foundation for moving forward. Like my store has not been missing transactions before with the Follett IT guys and their home grown applications.
POS rollout a success?!! Hahahahaha. It's crap. Ask about all the missing transactions.

Two questions: should you look for a new job—do you want to wait to be called in for the special meeting and perp walked out of the building like a criminal? Will outsourcing succeed—depends on who is writing the narrative. The bean counters will tell you how much money they saved. They never have to account for the lost productivity. That number is never captured. Like the lost experienced associates. They tell you how much they saved by cutting associates or forcing out associates but they never capture the lost productivity and training new staff and doing things in the new and innovative ways that was tried and failed years (or decades) before. All smoke and mirrors.
Up until now I thought the outsourcing work never happen, that it was just talk. Now I am worried. Should I start looking for a new job? Do you think this outsourcing will succeed?
If there were many more "accomplishments" worth naming you would have. Efollett and a pos tablet was already there. The rest is just used car salesman jargon. The IT has been and will continue along with other deptments outsourced to India. Quality, business knowledge in returm , no.

Accomplishments are bringing IT costs into alignment with industry standards. Bringing in talent that was present but needed to move forward. Successful POS roll-out which is still happening (they don't happen overnight), multiple successful upgrades to eFollett with resulting sales growth, for reasonable timelines and expectations on the business users to prevent IT employee overload and burn out and building strong relationships with external vendors to grow continued cost reductions. There are many more.....

The previous mobile POS was a kludge from a company the size of a small bookstore. That was all talk and little action. Sanjeev is all about action and moving the business forward. He pushes IT to transform and contribute to the success of the company. Many accomplishments in just two short years.
To the SS & POS fans, you must be kidding me. The new POS project has been a joke from the get go. If you were involved, you'd know that. Try again.
POS tablets was in development and beta before SS came along and would have been in the all stores a year ago, where have you been?
Sanjeev provides the tools to improve the store operations and provide a hassle free shopping experience. You need to talk with the merchants regarding what you are actually selling. Or maybe CNS can do that job as well!

The new CIO is all about technology. Did you know that tablets will be available in all stores to transform your retail operation? Imaging line busting, check out and doing any ORPOS task directly from anywhere in the store. Without the new CIO you would not have this.
The technology for writing notes with a smart pen on Samsung phones has been around for awhile folks. I suppose tablets aren't allowed in meetings either, keep the latest advancements out surprises no one.
This starts at the top. Almost every senior leader attends the meetings and has their nose buried in their cells. Who takes notes on a cell phone? Also, it is just as bad with those that bring PC's to meeting and are busy reading and responding to emails....not paying attention.
In this day and age cell phones have become an essential work tool and therefore this rule should read "Don't Bring Your Cell Phone to Meetings If You Are Going to Use It for Anything Not Related to the Meeting." It's likely you have your calendar on your phone and you probably use it to take notes. If you need to have it with you for those reasons, then you don't have much of a choice. Do not use it to text, read or post status updates, or play games. Don't bury your nose in your phone. Keep your eyes on whomever is speaking and stay engaged in the meeting. Doing anything else will be a clear signal to your boss that your mind isn't 100 percent on the business at hand.

I WAS doing my job, until corp. stuck their noses in. Now I'm dealing with consultants who have no clue what they are doing and simply code defect on top of defect. Apparently this is okay because we are getting them cheap.
IT's value is to help the business move forward. If you are not doing your job, you will be replaced either with new employees or outsourced to India. Management has made that evaluation and was presented to you at the initial town halls two years ago.

Ok, hang on. Developers are "arrogant" but FHEG management isn't. Developers pushing back on crazy deadlines is "arrogant". Developers wanting to push out a GOOD product is "arrogant". FHEG management handing off an incomplete set of requirements for a BRAND NEW e-reader then demanding everything be done and working perfectly in 4 months is NOT arrogant. Oh, can't forget changing things last minute on the day of release too! Pardon me while I bend over for you guys.
To those who say the developers are 'arrogant', explain why they are arrogant. I'm genuinely curious to know. Most of the ones I've interacted with have been very helpful, so I'm a bit perplexed by these accusations without any evidence.
