Thread regarding Heald College layoffs

If you don't understand the problem, you are part of the problem.

Heald has been and is still doing the things that got CCI in trouble. Stop whining and take some responsibility for yourselves and the damage you have done on so many levels.

To 474 & 480: I just want to point out that it looks very bad when you are calling someone a loser and you misspell the word. Pot stirred.

The government should just fund public colleges directly instead of letting low earning students carry the crushing debt and spend the rest of their lives as indentured servants. Then, for-profit, private colleges can charge whatever they want, and provide their own scholarships as incentives to gain students. They could be selective then and attract quality students. Oh, also all colleges should require an introductory course offered for free about student finance and consumerism. EVERYONE involved needs to be more responsible. Consumer and vendor. Let's end the cycle. Together.

  1. Going to a community college doesn't guarantee that your credits transfer. Some of the community colleges where I'm at aren't transferrable to the University and they're in the same system!

  2. An education is only as valuable as the person getting it. I've known Heald graduates that went on to work for government, 3-letter acronym organizations and some that refuse to leave their $8.00 an hour job out of 'loyalty' to the company. I know people that graduated from Ivy League schools with even MORE debt than Heald graduates ($40k/yr for a BA... a YEAR) who are still looking for employment and some that are in Fortune 500 companies.

  3. While Corinthian DOES engage in shady practices (It was Everest who paid employers to hire people for 1 day just so they'd have an employment), the fleecing of students is an epidemic across all of higher Academia. I would LOVE for the public Universities to have to report their numbers of graduates employed in field and working jobs that meet Gainful Employment criteria.

I agree that student debt needs to stop but I think that accountability should be expected of all institutions of higher education, not just for-profits. (E.G... stop paying University librarians 800K/yr and football coaches millions).

For all those who champion community college, check the numbers. I was a student for a while, and getting classes meant sitting on the floors until someone dropped. After 4 years, the few who continue still dont have degrees. Heald gives a clear path to success. I think 452 is right on here.

474 although I like the name Matt, I am just someone enjoying the take down of a scam that has hurt countless people. I will be sure to honk when I see you standing in the unemployment line!

I bet this is Matt Ormond stirring the pot when he is not stirring coffee for Eeva. That looser has a job for life as long as Eeva is there to shield him.

452 Explain to me how $20,000 to $40,000 for a near worthless program helps people out of poverty. Community College is 10 times less and offers a real education with transferable credits and no outrageous debt. Unlike Heald CC doesn't have a collections department harassing poor students for cash payments for the CEOs pockets. If you think you are helping the poor, do a simple google search and see the crippling debt and how much these diploma mills ruin lives. SHAME ON YOU!

The "same things"? Do you mean CCi has been changing students' lives and giving them a bridge out of poverty like Heald? If so, then kudos to them.

I have been looking at some of the posts here, and while there are many annoying lies, most troubling is the arrogant elitism of the "close Heald" group. We couldn't all afford to go to Ivy League schools like these people, so they assume any attempt to help those in need is fraud. I am going to keep doing what I do, and doing it damn well. That is what students deserve, Maybe some elitist here will work for a Heald graduate some day.
