Thread regarding Heald College layoffs

Heald Attendance Policy

Received an email that if a student even steps foot in the classroom, they are to be marked present.

Is that practice kind of the same as where the funny numbers for placement originate?

Why did they put fresh out of school PDs in charge of experienced teachers? Wait. Don't answer that.

Just mark them present every 2 weeks and there won't be any problems. It's not that complicated.

How about the majority of students who can't read, write, or use a computer. Hell, most of the students can't even speak clearly. Yes, Heald is part of the problem and the education has been watered down so the dummy students can pass the courses. Everyone knows this. At the end of the day the students are too dumb to realize that their degree with worthless.

Yes, we know the students are barely literate, that is the target market. But most of the PDs and instructors have their degrees from the fine institutions like Everest and University of Phoenix. So it really is the uneducated ignorant teaching the even less educated ignorant. This is all part of the dumbing down of America. If teachers can't add 2+2, how do you expect the students to be able to?

447 has it right. I don't know why people bother posting here with a buch of b.s. Heald is good and the people who work there know it.

There will always be those who want to disparage successful individuals or organizations(I believe the current parlance for such an entity is a "hata"). I have been pleased to see Heald taking the higher ground. This is what higher education is about. It is not political; it is not corporate. It is about maximizing opportunities for student success while also broadening minds to the possibility inherent in a well-rounded curriculum. Heald has stood as a real cornerstone for over 150 years, and we can feel a deep sense of pride that this is only the beginning.

Over time, Heald's attendance policies -- and practices became a joke. Remember how it started out as simply absent or present, then absent, present, or late? Then, there were changing policies about when to take attendance (at the very beginning, 10 minutes in, at the end of class)? Then, there was the crazy system of A, A with Circle, some other symbol for left early (what if a student came late and left early?). Finally, electronic, but then teachers spent so much time taking attendance. Yup, we know what's important.

Everyone wants to blame CCI for the scams and outright fraud, but Heald is going at great lengths to SAY they are not Heald. Yet they still are doing the same practices. Heald is in its own right a sham and it just partnered up with a bigger sham. If you are unfortunate to be working at Heald right now, I suggest you either stop blaming CCI or STOP with the CCI playbook.

This is the CCI way. Yes, technically if a student has set foot in the classroom they are "present," but this is clearly not the sprit of the rule. This is obviously contrary to the accredidation requirements. But this is CCI, follow the technical letter of the rules and completely ignore that actual intent and spirit of the rules. This is why we're being shut down, and this is why we deserve it. F*&% CCI.

We ALL know attendance and placement are a joke at Heald. We get the His Risk List with 100 students every 6 weeks, students who haven't been in class, you have less than 30% in grades an miracle upon miracles at the end of the 6 weeks most of them make it through with passing grades! It is a JOKE and needs to be SHUT DOWN!!!!

ACICS does not accredit Heald. ACICS, which is pretend accreditation to begin with, is irrelevant to Heald.

One modification to my prior post: the job has to be INTENDED by the employer as long term, permanenet employment. Part time counts, but no short term/temp jobs can count.

317 - Actually, per CCI standard practice and ACICS requirement, as long as the employer legitimately verifies employment on the first day of work, the placement counts. The grad can then quit or be let go at any time - even the end of the first day - and it will still count. I have had placements verified AFTER the grad left/was dismissed, and the placement counted. Our responsibility in CS is to get them employed. We are not responsible for what happens afterward (layoff, attendance, poor performance, etc...). I sure this will stir things up a bit, but that is how it works.

By that logic, a student who gets a job through Heald placement, but is let go the same week, does count as being "placed"?

Pretty sure that being being physically in the correct location does count as being "present", yes.
