Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Deserves to be on the main page

There is an old Japanese saying that goes "The Nail That Stands up Gets Hammered Down." Remember that you work here at their discretion. That's not a threat, the rest of us also work at the discretion of a bunch of incompetent toadies, but there are less destructive ways of channeling your righteous discontent out there. Not to mention at first glance one would think this a means to try and shake out into the open all those unhappy survivors in order to line them up against a metaphoric wall as it were.

To paraphrase Lincoln, labor and capital are co-equals. Labor has nowhere to work without the inspiration and resources bought by capital. However, capital can't bring its vision to fruition without labor. You posses the same power the thugs in the board room have. You can leave. If you want to make it hurt, call in sick as part of an organized sick out. Show stuffed shirts that nothing gets done when there isn't any workers. Let them twist. Let them bluster about firing people. They're doing that anyhow. Hurt them! You are equal to management IF you act together.

As the one who wote the mentioned post (not a VP by the way, and not someone who is 'new' to Follett,) I quoted it as a caution. My loyalty extends only as far as the next paycheck. Don't set yourself up for being made an example of. If you're worried, arm yourself with knowledge, with facts, and be emotionally neutral, but above all look out for yourself. No one else is really going to protect you. Until we see a solid four or more quarters of stability or growth you can expect this to continue. I may fall victim to the next round of purges, I have no illusions about that.

An apt comparison. I expect Follett will share the fate of a couple Japanese cities in the mid-1940's very soon.
