Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

I am so glad I no longer work for COP. I got laid off 6 years ago. I got 60 weeks pay and took the lump some at the best time possible. I took another job with another major 2 months later, so basically got double pay for 40 weeks. Thank you COP!!!

92825 I agree, and I didn't want to put you on the spot. If there was a way to message you, I would. Mostly I was curious whether or not you were in the oil & gas industry and whether or not the opportunity was in the area of Bville. Thanks.

You have to treat it strictly as a business relationship. In my 30 years in this business, the oil companies have taught me there is no such thing as loyalty. Quite frankly, I could not care less whether my company does well or not other than how it affects my employment. I learned not to invest in the company I work for. You pay me, and pay me well, or I will find someone that will, and I won't let the door hit me in the rear on the way out. I am so glad I can afford to quit tomorrow, thanks to the pension, layoff package and other bene's I got from COP 6 years ago.

I do not think it is a good idea to say exactly what company I went to. However, I will say it is larger than COP, and In the 5 years I have been here they have been very good to me, unlike my previous employer, especially toward the end. So yes, the window may have closed (with COP), but a very large door opened. So keep your head up folks! You never know how things will turn out, but I have noticed it is usually for the better.

Take every penny and benefit you can get from them and don't even think for a minute HR or anyone in the company gives a rat's a$$ about you. I saw how people were just lead out the door so I'll give them 15 minutes notice like they did to the people who were let go. I'll just call in from the house and tell them I'm retiring when it's my time if they don't get me first.

Yes good time for a layoff. The job market is good. The $2,000 education severance and the time off from work create opportunities for career advancement not available at ConocoPhillips. Despite lip service otherwise, the management at ConocoPhillips would not allow the budget or the time for education required for career advancement. Sad ConocoPhillips did not put this much effort into current employees. Rather pleased with the opportunities associated with time and money sufficient to explore better career opportunities.
