Thread regarding SAE Institute (formerly the School of Audio Engineering) layoffs

Is anyone else concerned that we have yet to hit enrollment goals?

Does anyone else have my same concern that we have not hit enrollment goals? The advisors at our campus are getting nervous.

I was with SAE when they came to the U.S. and have seen it all. All schools need to enroll 40/50 students every intake across all programs to be successful. In the early days the staff would include a director, an office worker, front desk, a few instructors and supervisors. Small staff lots of students. Since 2007/8 student enrollment has been declining across the whole educational market, attracting new students is highly competitive. Programs must be innovative and fill a need in the employment market and you must attract quality students that can successfully complete the programs.

If the US schools as a whole can not generate a healthy profit then Navitas will have to sell it off. It could succeed as a mom and pop and generate a comfortable income for a single owners but it has trouble generating large profits that would satisfy share holders. SAE management inflated enrollment estimates across the schools and sold Navitas a pipe dream. It will take a strong/smart leader with a since of ethics and knowledge of the U.S education system to get out of this mess, there is no one in the Navitas organization who possesses theses qualities.

Cutting the high school ambassadors was a major blow. although they didn't impact all the starts they would have done a huge difference with the summer starts coming up and fall starts when high school kids get out of school in May. What people don't realize is that the ambassadors were able to finally get the name of SAE out in the community amongst the target audience (high school kids) that are really into music production. Before the ambassadors many people down here had never heard of SAE. SAE spends very little money on advertisement I guess in the hopes that people will find them on the internet (dumb ass way to market a school). You needed these walking advertisement that the ambassadors provided to get the name out there and get the buzz going. And just when that was starting to happen some idiot from Australia had the bright idea to layoff pretty much the entire marketing team (i.e. ambassadors). How are you going to make money if you don't spend money idiots in Australia? How will people know about SAE? Folks in Australia.....please get a freakin clue as to what is really going on at the ground level!

I use the school for steady income so I can work on my own clientele and business. I hope they don't come around to my campus any time soon. At least I get my crap benefits. If we want to complain about HR who do we complain to? The HR department knows only one thing.. how to layoff. lame

my pay was cut by 60%, there really is no point with this school anymore. They are cutting the pay, and they are going to get what they pay for. I already know of 4 instructors who will be leaving from my campus.

I thought it was just our campus where pay was getting "reviewed"

it all started with getting rid of the hs ambassadors. After that, the marketing team is wasting time making pretty half ass'ed youtube marketing. there's more information on the SAE sorority. It's not just retention of students, retention of teachers. Pay just got shredded at our campus. Already looking for a different job

It's not just the enrollment goals, but our retention is collapsing too. Our campus is going through the motions, but whenever I ask my president about how we are doing as a whole, I get a skirted answer. I have a feeling we are digging ourselves into another hole
